We ate at the Rockland House three times, once just getting takeout at the bar, once as part of a group, and once on our own. All three meals were satisfying. The bar food was what one might expect, burgers, a meatball parmesan sandwich, a...fried haddock sandwich, etc. I got the meatball parm on a brioche-type roll, while my wife got the haddock. Both came with fries, and both were well-executed. Meals in the main dining room come with soup (2 choices each day), unlimited bread, and a big salad bar. The first day, dining with 9 other people, I had the "cowboy steak" with baked potato. While it wasn't, strictly speaking, a cowboy steak, for it was boneless, it was nonetheless a pound of tender, medium-rare beef offered at a very reasonable $30; my wife had the veal marsala, which was good, although the sauce was a little thicker than in should have been. The second time we ate in the dining room, I ordered the veal parmesan, which featured two honest veal cutlets, and not the processed veal patties that too many restaurants use; there was ample tomato sauce and cheese, along with a side of angel hair pasta in a chunky tomato sauce. My wife had the broiled seafood platter, and enjoyed it; it was accompanied by a seasoned rice dish that was very good. Each night, we left the dining room completely sated.More

Didn't expect much upon first glance but was very pleasantly surprised. We were a party of five with very different tastes and each of us found something to our liking. In fact, it was hard to decide from the many diverse items on the menu....Items chosen were NY strip steak (2), Chicken Parmesan(2) and grilled Ahi tuna. All were cooked to perfection and the portions were extremely generous. And might I add- Delicious! Another nice touch was the Pub cheese and assortment of crackers at the table when we sat down, which was graciously refilled upon request. The owner even came by to thank us for stopping in. All in all, a most delightful dining experience. Can't wait to go back!More

Avoid this place if you can. Old, dirty and outdated. Restaurant reaks of something foul. Hotel office is in kitchen. Dirty laundry is washed in kitchen. Old blankets that smell like carpet freshener. Doors hanging off closet. Have to turn circuit breaker on and off...for heat.More

Went out to dinner we all ordered a little different the steaks both came with rice which was cold and the prime rib was so tough and flavorless it was not eaten neither was the other steak meal. The shrimp scampi over angel hair was...cold and the shrimp were tough this meal was not finished either. The only meal I cant complain about was for the little guy his chicken tenders & fries came out hot he had to wait for them to cool and enjoyed it. The cheese and crackers, salad bar and soup were ok but you cant go to wrong with that. The wheels feel off the chairs very dangerous! WE WILL NOT BE GOING BACK!!!More

We were on the road for several weeks, visiting restaurants daily, and this was the only place where our meals were truly poor. The salad bar was quite nice, but not the prime rib or trout entrees. The beef was about 80 percent fat and...gristle and the little that was edible was tough and tasteless. The trout was simply not fresh enough and had an off-taste. The huge dining room was virtually empty, and we now understand why.More

The dining room is a large room that feels like it could be cleared out at any moment for a random event. No booths, just tables and chairs. Has an old Ponderosa/Bonanza feel. Everyone (well, the other 6 people there) turns and looks at you...as you enter. (Maybe locals looking for their kin, I really have no idea). Quick service. But, the ribs were dry and the salmon under cooked. Over priced menu. In March, the Christmas decor was still up. No other ambiance to speak of. When we called about St. Pat's Day and inquired about corned beef and cabbage availability, they said they were having a party and might have some left over after the party....WHAT? Seriously? Nah, I'll pass on your party leftovers, but thanks.More

Great food and service. We love to fish and they had great fish dishes. But what we REALLY loved was the whole grain bread at the salad bar. Most places don't have very good bread. And you can have all you want, you don't have...to keep asking for more...just get it at the salad bar. We live in the area and go every chance we get. Prices are very reasonableMore

We went here on a Tuesday night and were the only ones in the restaurant. that was a little creepy but we stayed. Service was obviously very good but food was average. Queen prime rib was lukewarm and rather tough while my trout was also...not hot and had little flavor. Some herbs would have been nice.More

The Rockland House has been around for a long time. I think I have been passing it for at least 40 years on my journey from upstate to NYC (and it's probably been there even longer). As many times as I've passed it, I've never...stopped, but I did this past weekend. It seems like a place where nothing has changed for a very long time, nor would you want it to. It's old fashioned, meat-centric menu (with seafood as well) seemingly holds wide appeal for the vast number of diners who pass through here every year (I'm thinking there must be many hunters and fisherman who stop here, as that is what the area is known for). The ambiance is that of an old fashioned hunting lodge, and it consists of just one large room with high ceilings with tables (so definitely NOT a place to go if you are looking for romantic ambiance). Plenty of room for large parties. I love prime rib, but I rarely get the chance to have it, so I decided to order it. I specifically love "wedding" prime rib, i.e. where they've been slow roasting it for a long time, waiting for the bridal party to appear for the reception. And wedding baked potatoes - also slow roasted for a long time. This meal fulfilled my prime rib peculiarities perfectly. Excellent king cut, perfectly cooked. Baked potato was perfect. Served with butter and sour cream on the side. My dining companion had the pork shank, which was also delicious, with an excellent long-roasted sweet potato on the side. Your meal includes a trip to the salad bar, a cup of homemade soup (the evening's offerings were tomato or onion) and some wonderful bread. People have remarked that they found it pricey, but given that everything is included, we did not find that to be the case. We also had quite a large quantity of leftovers, which we happily packed up and are enjoying today. Despite the fact the servers were running around, as it was very busy that night, the service was very good. The bar prices were also extremely reasonable. My only suggestion would be that they take advantage of the rich bounty of the farms in the area, and upgrade the salad bar to include some fresh vegetable salads and homemade dressings (they're not). Would happily pay a bit more for some fresh summer tomatoes etc. All in all, a good find!More

Sonya and I were on our way back from Binghamton we decided to stop. There really isn't much around these parts. What a pleasant surprise! A fresh salad bar with soup, really good soup too, and bread. The waitress was friendly, courteous, efficient, and you...could tell she liked her job. She took our order quickly and it arrived the way it was ordered. Did I mention the have a full bar and a small but adequate wine list. The house wines were priced to drink too. My steak was cooked perfectly and came out hot. The baked sweet potato was amazing. I never had one so sweet, like it was injected with maple sugar. Sonya's chicken was delicious. The portions are huge so plan on taking some home with you. There is more than enough parking too. All in all a gem in the middle of nowhere. Oh and I just live there tag line; "EAT HERE OR WE'LL BOTH STARVE!"More

Had company from NJ and decided to dine at Rockland House to showcase our casual, rustic area. We love the food here...and so did our company. The salad bar is always fresh, and the homemade bread and soups were also appreciated. Everyone in our party...was please with their selections of various steak, fish and chicken dishes. Always a great, filling meal at the Rockland House.More

They have a full menu. As for vegetarian, I honestly don't know. I know it's not a great answer, but, they have a salad bar. Sorry I don't know more for you.
