On our way to Cape Town we stopped at Barrydale for lunch at The Jam Tarts. A simple but very good restaurant directly on the R62. We had a light lunch and we were served by the lovely waitress with the name of Mishé.

One of a number of choices in Barrydale. Enjoyed venison pie and organic breakfasts for the ladies went down well.

My family and I visited this restaurant just before their closing time (we did not know what time they closed) They were gracious enough to serve us even though it was their closing time. The staff was very friendly.

There are extremely few restaurants open on a Monday evening in Barrydale. I'm not sure if this is the case during the rest of the week, We were lucky to happen upon The Jam Tarts in our endeavor to find an open restaurant. The meal was not only delicious but well presented by Colin who took great care to ensure... More

Hi Vinnie275 Thank you for your excellent review. I am so pleased that you had such a good experience at The Jam Tarts. Barrydale is primarily a lunch time trade so as a result the restaurants take turns to be open in the evenings. As you have gathered, Monday is our night. Luckily for us, you were in town :-)... We were travelling along the R62 from Oudtshoorn to Montagu and had tried to stop for lunch in Ladismith but couldn’t find anywhere to park. So the next habitation was Barrydale and by the time we got there we were gasping. We saw The Jam Tart, it looked OK and had parking on the main road. So we tried it... More

One of 2 restaurants that were open on this Monday night, but what a pleasant find. We sat under the vines next to a babbling fountain. Our waiter was extremely pleasant and apologised for the fact that there were no more venison pies, but I had the chicken pie and gravy with salad and fries, and it was a great... More

Hi maureenrrr Thank you for your excellent review. Balmy, summer Karoo evenings lend themselves to a wonderful al fresco experience. I am starting phase two of the renovations - the outdoor area. Next time you visit there will be even more interesting things to experience in the garden. The donkeys thank you for your support! Kind regards Sarah More

We were here in February with friends. I had a fabulous curry, like in India, but my husband had a pizza which was too dry for us. Good relation quality/price and nice atmosphere.

Really lovely and tranquil stop along a hot and dusty road. Just loved the fountain babbling in the courtyard and the vine covered pergola shading us from the noonday sun. Had the best soup I have had in SA...bar none (the butternut soup) and my husband raved about the curried chicken salad. Great spot to stop and relax for a... More

Having heard nothing but rave reviews from friends stopping at The Jam Tarts restaurant when passing through Barrydale on the R62, I decided to try it out myself yesterday. Fantastic service, starting with the friendly welcome expressed by Sarah (the owner), through to her attentive staff and followed up by the absolutely delicious hamburger I ordered (one of the best... Hi mandyduplessis17 Thank you for your excellent review! Next time you should spend the night in Barrydale and then you can linger longer in the garden, alongside the trickling water and amongst the abundant bird life we have worked hard on attracting. What a pleasant surprise to find this quaint country cafe while travelling through Barrydale on the R62. Even though stifling hot it was refreshing to sit under the slatted awning with tinkling water and misters. The staff were friendly and most accommodating while fulfilling our special needs. How they managed to juggle the number of people during the lunch time... More
