Spent a couple of nights trying to find this place having read the good reviews. It moved location last year and is now up an alley next to the Canary hostel. There aren't any fans and it was very hot but the food was amazing - one of the best meals we've had on our trip. I had the fish... More

As others have said. Great authentic family restaurant. It does seem a little strange taking this alley (next to Canary Hostel) fro a few hundred yards seeming like going nowhere but worth it when you get there. Great value, great food and great experience

Having seen the restaurant's rating on TripAdvisor, we consulted google maps and rented a scooter to try and find it. It wasn't easy to find the place and we almost turned back shortly before we finally spotted the sign we knew from the photos on TripAdvisor. The place is furnished in a rather cheap and simple style but with much... More

If you follow the instructions it's easy to arrive. Placed in a beautiful, peaceful area. Very friendly athmosphere and a kind family who run this place. You can feel what they do and cook is authentic. Finally, very tasty food and drinks , and very cheap!!

We visited Phu Quoc with friends and stayed at Hong Bin Bungalows. In reading reviews of the bungalows we came across a reference to this restaurant. On our first evening we chose to try it since it was the closest restaurant to our hotel. We loved it so much we ate there every night! The restaurant has tables outdoors and... More

Visited this restaurant on recommendation of another hotel guest. Not easy to find but head for Canary Hostel and signposted from there. This is a local's house and they have set up a restaurant out front, and if you want a real taste if Vietnam then this is the place to go. Had some lovely food, all freshly cooked and... More

After researching this place on TA we found our way there. Helpful staff, wonderful quiet spot and fabulous food. Was probably the best food we had on the island. Highly recommend.

We're in PQ for 3 nights & have enjoyed 3 delicious dinners in the company of the Hieu family, M&C (Americans), several Swedes, a few Russians, some Asians. So fun-- but mostly good honest VN food. The kind your fantasy Vietnamese grand ma makes. As others have noted, not easy to find. Look up the Canary Hostel on the main... More

Located in the bushes after walking a small pathway (some call it a street) it's not easy to find but it's all worth it to look out for. Try the lemongrass dishes … or everything else. I come back next winter to play for Hieu Fam. Rest. … my spanish guitar :)

We read the reviews on trip advisor so decided to give it a whirl, and it's amazing! So good we went 3 nights in a row! Whole fish cooked on the BBQ is to die for, pork chops are probably the best I've ever eaten, and those coconut curries are delicious. We kept going back because there was more we... More

Description
Hieu's Family Restaurant has been in operation for 24 years. It began when the family provided food on the beach for the few early tourists to Phu Quoc. There was not even a building at the beginning, just chairs on the beach. In time the family rented space to serve tourists, but each time in each location, the rent was increased, so the family had to move. Still the regulars managed to find it each time they returned. "The food is so good and so inexpensive, why eat anywhere else?" This is a common comment about Hieu's. Finally the restaurant has found a permanent home in a lovely garden attached to the family house. Though more off the beaten path, the regulars are still finding it and telling others. The restaurant is now located off Tran Hung Dao St., about 200 meters up the small alley next to Canary Hostel. Look for the big green sign that says Canary, and head up the hill.
