Very reasonable pubby food- what you expect from a pub. Great for a couple, a group and even families. Service is good too.

I ordered the "La's Crock of Cheese Platter." I was served 10 Ritz Crackers, 3 oz of Cheese Whiz, a tablespoonful of onion and an oz of mustard. The menu states the cheese will be "an aged cheddar." Unfortunately Cheese Whiz is not considered an aged cheddar since there is no cheese in it.
The fireplace inside, the bench outside, and the bar imported from Ireland all make this one of the most comfortable places to hang out. Easy for people from different towns to meet up even if take the train! We enjoy the Irish fare whenever we go, although everything is good to great. I think of this as more a beer... More
Imagine a classic Irish bar then open your eyes and you'll be inside St. James Gate. This neighborhood classic is always bustling with people from all walks of life so you'll be sure to feel comfortable. Our waitress last night at the end of her shift was over the top gracious, responsive and quick. If you haven't been to SJG... More
St. James is the best place in Maplewood for good bar food, a friendly atmosphere and a break from gentrifying Maplewood. It has a large active bar area and a separate restaurant area. If you have children, you can feel completely comfortable having dinner in the restaurant area. At the bar, you will find warm, accommodating bartenders who go out... More
ST JAMES has really good beers and amazing wings and fries. The sauces they use are also amazing. It's a must if you visit Maplewood
I've reviewed this restaurant several times in the past. So, this is just an update. Do not go on Monday or Tuesday. Apparently, the sous chef covers the kitchen. I can't speak for other dishes. I only order the mussels. Immediately, my girlfriend and I knew something was off. The mussels weren't "bad." Something was definitely missing. The broth was... More
Go for a burger. And then try anything else in the menu. So many good things. Sometimes it's hard to decide. But you can always come again and again.
I do love this place. The atmosphere is great. Perfect pub vibe, the fireplaces in the winter make it so cozy. On Sunday afternoons the live fiddle players are terrific. BUT: the service here drives me absolutely NUTS. I admit I work in the industry and may notice details more than the next person, but this place does not train... More
I've patronized this establishment for 12 years, despite the food being so-so, the draft list limited, and the noisy environment. Last night I sat down to dinner and a group of bagpipe players and drummers suddenly congregated around our table. It was so loud my ears were ringing. I approached the owner to ask how long they would be playing,... More
