With restaurants being closed because of the coronavirus, celebrating special occasions can be challenging. Fortunately, The Blue Bottle Cafe is having selections of takeout dinners for 2. Tonight for our wedding anniversary, my wife and I had the Blue Bottle salad, delicious Norwegian salmon, and...decadent cupcakes with buttercream frosting. It made our celebration complete. We have had the opportunity to dine at this restaurant several times over the years, even though we don’t live in Hopewell. I hesitated to write a review, since I wanted to keep this local gem a secret. But the quality of both food and...service is so good that I thought it is only fair to write this review. Their menu is seasonal and there is always something new on the menu. Their salads (Blue bottle salad, Cesar salad...) and seasonal soups are delicious. Everything is fresh and seems to be locally sourced. Main course offers are meat, chicken, duck, fish and pasta. We have tried many of them at various points and all have been prepared to perfection! Deserts are another story. You need to keep room for desserts! They are innovative and sumptuous! Service is unpretentious, friendly and classy at the same time. If you are in Hopewell area, don’t miss on this gem and make sure you make a reservation. It is a very popular spot with the locals. The couple who owns this restaurant and are the chef and pastry chef know how to create a welcoming atmosphere with excellent food and service. The food (5 stars) was amazing, a feast for the eyes and the palate! We started off with the Boar ragu and the little gem salad both were very good, although some of the pieces of boar were more like hard dried meatballs, the sauce...was delicious. The main entrees were Artic Char and Ostrich. Again, the protein and sauces were done to perfection. I like my Brussel sprout a little more crispy, but that is being picky. The chocolate dessert was not up to the same level as the dinner, but we finished every bite! Now for the But: When we arrived a few minutes early for our reservation (made almost 6 weeks ago) you would think that we would be welcomed to our table. Instead we were standing in the cramped foyer while this little old lady (who was definitely missing her smile) decided where to put us. After about 3 minutes a lovely waitress showed us to our table. Mind you the restaurant was not even 1/2 filled at the time. Our server was efficient, engaging, and knowledgeable. It’s a good thing we were trying to catch up with friends, because there is definitely a wait for your food, so we had plenty of time. Unfortunately, the other issue is the noise level. It just takes one loud table to ruin the ambiance for the whole room. I would come here for a romantic dinner.More

We dined here for my wife's birthday and the food was delicious. We'll be coming here again to sample future seasonal menus. The lobster wontons app was yummy and the steak and swordfish entrees were perfectly cooked.

Restaurant in a charming blue cottage with topnotch cooking coming out of the kitchen. I am gluten free and they were very accommodating. I ordered the seafood burger platter (which, without the bun) was still gluten free due to the homemade quality of the seafood...burger (no bread used as filler). My husband had the Cuban sandwich--the chef's contemporary version, which contained large pieces of pork belly and he loved it. Would definitely come again for lunch and probably dinner.More

Enjoyed everything from start to finish. Although we started with a reservation for the wrong day (our fault) they were very accommodating and found a really nice table for us. The staff is very friendly and it was almost like eating with family but the...food was better. Four of us had different dishes and all the plates were wiped clean...can't give a better description of how good the food was. While it ain't cheap eats the food and service made it worthwhile. You always think that you need to add a criticism to add reality to a review....I can't think of anything that was not great. We will dine here again.More

Thoroughly enjoyed a dinner here last week. Started with hot (!) and very creative bread rolls, which augured well for the rest of the meal. Very knowledgable and friendly service, with some creative and well thought-out dishes. Unfortunately, too full to try their desserts. BYOB,...which makes the reasonably priced food a double bargain. We look forward to going back!More
