We ordered paella to go for a special meal. Everything was hot and ready at the appointed time. Our special requests were accommodated. Most importantly, the paella was delicious; the rice was perfect. It made for a happy, celebratory family dinner on a snowy winter...night. In the cold of February, when it is not possible to dine outdoors, try take out from Tomatello's. We were delighted.More

Driving through Hopewell yesterday we noticed this small restaurant with it's name "Tomatellos" (a play on Tomatillos) emblazoned over the door. When we got home looked it up on Trip Advisor and took a gander at its menu. That was enough to convince us to...give it a try. And, having a reservation (which really wasn't needed), we drove back to Hopewell tonight. The restaurant itself is quite small--narrow really, with a counter and the kitchen on the left and a row of tables on the right (they do have some outdoor tables, but this March evening was too cold for that). The place is simple, clean and pleasant, but not fancy. The menu is Mexican/Latin eclectic with some quite creative (and perhaps unique) items. My wife and I started off by sharing a bowl of their chicken/tortilla soup. Now, we've had Mexican Tortilla Soup with and without chicken many times. But Tomatello's recipe is quite different (small chunks of char-grilled chicken with thin strips of tortillas in a mildly spicy tomato broth) which was absolutely delicious and perhaps the best chicken/tortilla soup we've ever had. For our main course, my wife opted for their special Mahi Mahi tacos, which were good but a bit too salty. I chose their "Chorizo Loco" (one of theii innovative menu items not seen on any other Mexican restaurant menus)--it was basically a very fancy and filling Hot Dog with the Dog being a whole Chorizo placed two flour tortillas and covered with a creamy smooth Guacamole, some small chunks of mango, cheddar cheese and several other condiments and it was very good. I was a little concerned before I ordered it because it was priced at only $4.50 (on the entree menu) where almost all the other entrees were priced at between $8 and $16. But the Chorizo Loco was a large enough plate to be sufficient as a main course. This restaurant is family owned and staffed and the service was excellent and quite friendly. Our only concern is that we were here on a Saturday evening and between 6 and 7 PM only 2 tables were occupied. By all rights, Tomatellos ought to be busier. (BTW, the place was originally called Tomatillos, but when the Tello family took it over they modified the name by changing the i in Tomatillos to an e.) We think this little restaurant in the quaint village of Hopewell deserves a try. We enjoyed it and I'm sure we'll be back since we're anxious to try some of the other menu itemsMore

Fresh Mexican food, very friendly owners—and authentic Colombian empanadas as well. What’s not to like!

We ordered three things: Chorizo Loco - very good Beef Fajitas - good Churrasco - didn’t have much flavor & the rice was hard We would go back for the Chorizo Loco and to try some of the other dishes.

I ordered only one thing for takeout and was impressed, and so I expect to be back soon. The dasayuno is very large, flavorful, and authentic-seeming. It was described as being like a breakfast sandwich, but it was much better than that and could satisfy...as a lunch main.More

There was on person working there. He was very nice. It is basically exactly what chipotle is but a few more options, and the chorizo is a much higher quality. You can get it however you want, and there are tacos and quesadilla and burritos...and a few different kinds of meats. Good all aroundMore

Tomatillo's is a great little place to get a quick bite or food to go. It features fresh Mexican cuisine including burritos, quesadillas, tacos and more. It is a counter service restaurant with a few tables for seating. There is also a specials board in...addition to the main menu. When ordering you have several options to choose from including the type of meat to assorted sides. The burrito's were very good and very full! The carnitas is excellent. You can also get chips and guacamole and few different fresh desserts, from flan to blonde brownies. The staff is friendly and and restaurant is cute. It does have a bathroom if needed and the Mexican music in the background gives you the feeling of having stepped into another world. They have soda, water, etc in bottles. It is a great place to grab a lunch either to dine in or take with you.More
