We've learned so much about world cuisine and this is the most recent lesson for visitors to Portsmouth. The owners of Durbar Square began in Manchester and followed that success to Hanover. They have now brought Nepalese dining to Portsmouth. This is its own creative fusion. The crossroads of Indian and Chinese food adds its own taste of Nepal to... More

Met my daughter here to explore the cuisine as she has an upcoming trip to Nepal. Homey atmosphere, attentive staff, wonderful food--we tried the bread, the sweet potato takari, and the boar ribs--also the chicken momo appetizer--dumplings, essentially--was tasty and plentiful. Love the fact you can pick your spice range "from 1 to 10", and not just mild/medium/hot etc. Nothing... More

Himalayan and Nepalese food - The Mo:Mo dumplings to start, the Lentil Soup (great smokey flavor), Takari (the goat was delicious! And the Manager (Owner) was very gracious. They have a spicy rating for many dishes from 1 - 10, which was explained very well and helped us choose they correct level for our dishes (4). All food is gluten... More

Never eaten Nepalese/Himalayan food before. This space on the corner of Market Street has been the home of many different restaurants in the past few years. New in town is Durbar Square, a Nepalese restaurant. Similar to Indian in some ways, however the curries and dishes are differently and subtly spiced and you can choose from mild to spicy.. Staff... We had heard that the restaurant was worth the effort. John greeted us and was a friendly server with great suggestions. The food was delicious & fresh. Very tasty ingredients at a spice level of 5. We will plan to come back again soon.

The staff was warm and engaging and made great recommendations. Nepalese food was new to us, but we enjoyed every bite of our momos, chile and lamb special. I would eat at this place once a week if it was close to home!

Was very curious about this new restaurant having never tried Nepali/Nepalese food. We enjoyed our experience overall. This is a very casual dining experience, run by family in the former "Michelle's" spot on Market Square. The restaurant was busy on a Friday night, and food came out of the kitchen very fast. While we didn't feel rushed, this is not... More

I didn't remember having ever had Nepalese cuisine, so I was curious and stopped here for lunch. I had their special Gundrun soup, and it was one of the best I've had. It's a 500-year-old recipe of theirs and tastes like a spicy tomato soup with bits of herbs in it. Fantastic. I had a side order of their special... More

There are two main types of Nepalese food served here. "Chilies" and "tomato based." The "Chilies" are meat or vegetables (or both) that are stir fired in a dry skillet with spices. The spiciness is based on how many hot chilies are cooked along with your food. The tomato based dishes add--you guessed it--tomatoes to the skillet. Both kinds of... More

We've never had Himalayan food before but after reviewing the menu online we decided to give it a go. We've been to this downtown location many times before because there has always been a restaurant located here. Upon arriving you'll see only 2-3 tables and the open kitchen, but don't worry as there is plenty of seating, as well as... More
