Went for lunch. This place has old stuff but it was dirty and dusty. Ordered lunch but it was understaffed and we waiting 40 min and then left after 1/2 a beer. It’s seen better days

Great old piece of history! Fun place to have a good lunch. Great collection of old brewery advertising and decor and a hard-working group of people.

We stopped here for lunch after visiting the nearby museums and we're glad we did. It's a large restaurant, but it feels very quaint and you can see all of the historical artifacts on the walls. This is a local favorite and the owner's wife...makes the cheesecake.More

What a fun adventure! The restaurant is in a fun old building. There are amazing things to look at, and the owner "I believe," was as kind, fun, and nothing short of amazing! I had the French dip, and I can say I have not...had better anywhere! The service was fast, and all of our meals were exceptional! What an amazing place!More

On a recent visit to St. Joseph, I ate lunch here on three consecutive days and each time thought it was great. An interesting variety of delicious custom-made sandwiches is available along with good local draft beers and the proprietor is very friendly and accommodating.

Met some friends for lunch today at Magoons. I had the Chicken Salad on marble rye with Swiss Cheese, grilled. My wife had Ben Rich’s ham salad with Swiss on marble rye. Both sandwiches were great. Topped it off with a couple of slices of...Magoons famous cheesecake with the Tracy chocolate & raspberry syrup drizzled on it. They call that the “ Tracycake”. Jerry fixed us some “pineapple upside down cake shots to top off the meal. They were great!!!More

This is a long time establishment in St Joseph, Mo. It still has the old original look and feel from yesteryear! Good food at very reasonable prices. Friendly service! Nothing fancy about this place but it has been around for many generations. A part of...St Joseph history for sure! Live music on the weekend with many local performers.More

Since we were from out of town, we wanted something local for lunch, and browsed the online maps until we found Ben Magoon’s, the oldest bar west of the Mississippi River. There was lots of visible nostalgia, but we could tell from the locals hanging...around talking and the signs advertising music on the weekends that this was a local favorite. Walking in, I overheard a local behind me tell a friend that she was getting a Rueben because they were the best in town, so when we ordered, I suggested my husband get the Reuben, while I got a Magoon (brisket, sautéed red and yellow peppers with onions and cheddar on a roll. Both were great! The corned beef on the Reuben was tender and lean, while the brisket was lean and flavorful! Each sandwich came with a bag of chips and a pickle. I had a soft drink while my husband had a draft beer (Blue Moon, his favorite).More

Wife had the BLT combo with soup and I had the special - the Rueben. Great sandwiches for reasonable prices. She also plunged and had their cheesecake - again great.

There is really not a bad thing you could say about this place. Great service, and the food was excellent as well. I finally made it by this place that had one of my favorite sandwiches, the Reuben. I am truly a Ruben connoisseur. It...wasn't thick and overflowing with meat, as how I see it in my mind how it should be. But nevertheless it was awesome. What I thought was even better was the chili. Don't go to this place and not try the chili. You'll see why it's award-winning. This deli has been around since 1918. It's nice to see you something looking like it was years and years ago. Kudos.More

Wow!!! What a trip down memory lane for me. I grew up in st joe and have such fond memories of this deli. The amazing things is that it still has a lot of the same decor at the same location. You should definitely check...it out especially if you're touring the Pony Express museum since it's right down the street. I had a Reuben, which was excellent and I'm a Rueben connoisseur!!! Very good. I will make this a must visit every time I'm in st Joseph!!! Also the cheesecake was TDF. Way better than the Cheesecake Factory chain--a must!!! Thanks to Jerry for resurrecting Magoon's!!!! I'll be back for sure. Also looking forward to coming back for live music!!! Who'd a thunk?!!!More
