There's a difference between Mexican tamales and Delta Tamales, and these are the real, Delta deal. Delta's are sweeter and cooked in a spicier broth. Don't pass these up if you're in Clarksdale. I know we'll be back. P.S. The place may look like it's closed, but use the "drive-thru" window on the side of the building.

Had some spare travel time so we took the back way. Spent the night in Clarksdale did all the local Blues stuff. On our way out noticed Hicks. Quite the place it was a sat actually thought it was closed, was going to pass on it, but saw a sign saying open. Swung in literally. No frills. Kind of small... More

My husband and I finally tried the Tamales here. We tried on several occasions but they were always closed! We ordered a dozen considering the size proportions are a little small. They are made with ground meat and alot of black pepper. We can say we tried them but not our favorite.

Stopped by Hicks after seeing it featured on one of Andrew Zimmern's shows. Tamales were good. A bit spicier than we in Texas are used to, but good nonetheless. Service was friendly and prompt, at least the drive thru was. All in all a nice experience. We'll go back when in Clarksdale again

Really delicious tamales - kind of small so order a lot of them - and super friendly service. I wish I lived closer to this place!

A walk from Ground Zero and a little tough to tell if it's open didn't stop us from having the best tamales we've ever had. The door was locked, so we just knocked to see what happened. Out came the owner who welcomed us in and promptly locked the door behind us. He didn't want too many customers on a... More

We had one day in the Delta and tried two different tamale places. Hicks' was very good, and the staff were very friendly (especially Ms. Betty--we really enjoyed talking with you!). We also tried the White Front Cafe. Hicks' tamales are different from White Front's--Hicks' are spicier and made with ground meat, and were served with chili to put on... More

Tamales had a little kick to them that I liked. Ate them with chili. Definitely not something you would want to eat while driving.

My wife and I shared a dozen tamales at Hicks'. Spicier than the tamales at the White Front in Rosedale (which are incredible), these tamales are one of a kind.

We stopped here to try the Tamales as they were meant to be the best around. I can't vouch for that as they were the first I had ever tried, however they were good! The place itself was a little run down and shady looking. Staff were OK, not really too friendly. Not many other options around but good food... More
