Visited the scenic Catlins with our niece and two lovely grandchildren the Saturday of Easter weekend - cute Easter carrot cakes, nice meals, good service. Look forward to our next visit to this beautiful area.
The carrot cakes were very popular with the kids that's for sure. Our baker did such a nice job with them. Thanks for appreciating all her hard work. More
We came here on Easter Monday, the wait time was long, we spent nearly 45 minutes to get 2 coffees and 1 hot chocolate, when we finally got our order the coffee wasn't good, bitter, watery and as if they had left the shot in for too long, the milk was ok though, but after we left the cafe both... Sorry for the wait, but you didn't mention the cafe was packed for the Easter Holiday and times do get a bit extended sometimes when we get everyone arrive at once. We are remote, that's for sure and unfortunately our 15% surcharge doesn't come close to paying for all the holiday pay and time in lieu that we have to... More
Visiting the Catlins we popped into Whistling Frog Cafe. Had the most delicious Blue Cod. Perfectly cooked with a delicious beer batter . Twice or thrice cooked chips - super crunchy and a yummy fresh salad with a lovely house dressing and tartar sauce. Washed down with their own brewed lager and Ale which was light and refreshing . If... More
Thanks Alison, will pass it on to the Chef team. Nice to hear you enjoyed your visit. More
This has to be the most expensive stop for a coffee in nz. We paid $ 6.25 for a coffee with a long wait for it to be served.
The price you are quoting is for a lot of add-ons, so not a fair indication. We do the best we can, but honestly we have had coffee in town and we are way faster. Good coffee does take a while to make and it is also in a "first come, first served", line-up, as other guests get served as... More
Food was absolutely delicious! Nice vegetarian options that aren't just pasta. I had the Rainforest Burger and it was excellent. Husband had the beef pie and said it was delicious too. Good service and nice atmosphere.
Yes, our vegetarian options are much appreciated, sold out of Risotto again yesterday. More
We stopped here as recommended by a family member. We were greeted by a warm, friendly smile and quickly taken to a table in the large courtyard. The weather was a little drizzly, not cold, but looking at the courtyard I could see it catered to the elements as it is covered, & has a large outdoor fire. The food... More

I stopped here after my visit to the McLean Falls and had a great lunch with a delicious chicken burger. Only small drawback was that it took quite a while for it to get prepared.
Yes, we prepare from scratch so does take a little longer, but as you say it is a great chicken burger. More
