A quick one-night trip to Port Huron to watch ships. Our room at the Doubletree was great, but the restaurant, not so much. I know that restaurants are struggling with staffing and product, but being a Wednesday afternoon/ evening, they were not very busy. Strike 1:...Too early for dinner when we arrived, but hungry. Went to Freighters for Happy Hour. We ordered the meet and cheese tray. Very disappointing. Although it was fresh, it was salami and cheese straight from a supermarket. We had this appetizer at this place before and it was much more “creative”. Strike 2: We went elsewhere for dinner but back to the hotel as a ship was due to come through soon. Decide to visit Freighters for coffee and dessert . We ordered a bread pudding. It was was served lukewarm with a small dish of half melted ice cream on the side. The bread pudding was at least “day old”, perhaps more. My coffee arrived and it was barely warm. The next time the waiter came by, we asked for a fresh cup. Time went by. The waiter passed our table several times. He finally came back and commented that the coffee should be ready soon. We told him not to bother. Strike 3: Gave them the benefit of the doubt and stopped for breakfast before heading home. We had breakfasted there on a previous visit. Choices were very limited, so we chose the buffet. The food appeared fresh and properly prepared, but it was barely warm. Fortunately, we were able to enjoy fruit and muffins. I stopped at the front desk and mentioned this to the desk clerk as we checked out. She explained that the restaurant was outsourced, but, as of May 1, management was coming back in-house. One…two…three strikes and I am glad to hear that they are OUT!More
