Several opening notes: I have dined at Roma Café off and on for years. The restaurant has been around for more than a century serving old school Italian food; this is not gourmet dining nor is it creative cuisine. On past visits, I have ordered off the menu and been satisfied. This last visit I selected the buffet - big... More

Old Time atmosphere. Food was good and served fast. Was hot and ready to eat. Bread was excellent. Was not asked about a refill on my soda. All others at my table were given refill without asking. Excellent place to visit while eating.

Not the best location, not the best set up, not the best service, old and shady restaurant, uncomfortable chairs, dark restaurant......nothing on the set up and amosphere invites you to eat here......unless the food is great. Amazing food can compensate and balance all what I mentioned.....but food here is just average. Really nothing special. Big dishes, but not special in... More

Whenever we have an opportunity to introduce someone new to Detroit, the Roma Cafe is always on our list. It's the oldest restaurant in Detroit (1890), near the Eastern Market section of town. The servers all wear tuxedos and the food is classic Italian dishes done magnificently. The building is old and small (the restrooms are really small), but it... More

Let me begin by saying that we have been to the Roma Cafe several times over the course of several years and have never had a bad experience there. This visit was no exception! Let me begin with our waiter who has been at Roma Cafe a long time, Sam. Sam was very attentive, especially to the kids. He even... More

Outside of the restaurant it was a little sparse but inside a nice quaint atmosphere was presented. The food was very good.

The best part about eating here was there very helpful shuttle over to the Opera House. The gentleman was very nice and was waiting for us as we exited the theater. As for the restaurant, the place was completely crowded. The calamari appetizer was not completely cooked. I order gnocchi and it was ok, except the sauce was not very... More

Been going to Roma Café for 50+ years (I am 60 now). Best Italian food this side (either direction) of Italy! Monday night there is an Italian buffet to die for.... meats, cheeses, salads, pasta, entrees, deserts, and strolling violinist and accordionist. Waiter in tuxedos! Be sure to make a reservation for dinner as they can often be standing room... More

The wait is long even with a reservation. There is no lobby and people are crammed inside the door while waiting to be seated. Waiters are carrying food through the crowd of people to get from one room to the next. We ordered the garlic cheese bread for an appetizer and it was burnt. The minestrone soup was good, only... The staff was pleasant and seated us right away. That was the best part. The dinning room was packed and we were seated at a table that had bread crumbs all over it.The waiter covered the crumbs up with a menu. When I said to him that the table was dirty he said, "Oh it was just some bread crumbs".... More
