We had a group of four in town for business. The locals told us about Englanders. We were all delighted with our lunches. We sat close to the griddle so we could see the action and the old fashioned milkshakes being made. Breakfast all day - I had the veggie omelette. The service was great. The diner is part of... This is the neatest small town restaurant located in an old drugstore from the 50's. It's since become an antique store and the old lunch counter is now Dottie's restaurant. This place is a blast from the past with the original counters and booths. They cook everything on a grill you can see from every seat. Hamburgers are real beef... More

A nostalgic soda counter...located in the back of Englanders Antiques. Still use the old shake blenders, food mostly cooked on grill in front of you. Food is simple but tasty, served quickly. Service is friendly to local regulars and fun to listen to but not too attentive to others. If your looking for fancy, this is not the place. Be... More

When we are in Oakland at lunchtime we go to Englanders. The food is average, but the experience is worth going back in time to those of us born in the 40's when we would go to the soda fountain! They have burgers, hot dogs, chili, egg combos, grilled cheese, and a pretty full menu. Dotty has been running Englanders for... More

My husband and I were cabin-camping at Herrington Manor State Park, and we drove to Oakland for the day. We came upon Englander's and decided to eat some lunch. It was 3:15, and the lunch counter was closed. A very nice waitress agreed to fix us some drinks. I had a chocolate malted shake, which was delicious. My husband had... More

Behind the antique booths in this former pharmacy is an old soda fountain. You can get a huge breakfast for very little and spend the rest on knick knacks. The buckwheat cakes are favs, but a regular old egg and bacon plate is a real satisfier. I tried the biscuits and gravy, but they weren't sinful enough for me. I... More

If you want a great breakfast with a side helping of nostalgia, do not miss visiting Englanders! It's so great -- classic diner offering the best Buckwheat cakes around. DO NOT miss the cinnamon rolls (wow.). Spend a little time after your meal shopping through the stalls of antiques and knick knacks.

Food is basic fare, prices are good, one cook though and a lot of staff running around. Not the fastest service, but if you want something basic and have an extra couple of minutes, it's doable. Most folks were locals as they didn't need menus and the staff already knew what they would order.

Grab breakfast, lunch, or s quick snack around an old time soda fountain luncheonette. Nothing fancy but good food and quick service. Their milkshakes are phenomenal!! Follow your meal w/ a tour thru aisles of memorabilia (for sale).

We were a table of 9. I know this is a locals place and we were on vacation but it got good reviews for breakfast so we thought we would try it. The place is weird. You walk into an antique shop but there is a lunch counter and tables in the back. We stood there for a while and... More
