We requested to be sat upstairs and were so glad we did! The view overlooking the hustle and bustle of the kitchen was exciting. All of the things we tried were excellent! You can't go wrong with the lobster mac n cheese. It was not your average mac n cheese. Super moist, creamy, pasta cooked to perfection with generous pieces... More

We have eaten all over the world in the best restaurants and this rates up with the best! We went with the waitress's choices and had some of their signature dishes (not to miss): lobster truffle mac & cheese, fois grois, tomato pesto salad (tomatoes are in season),.

Be sure to ask to sit upstairs. It's fun to be able to overlook the kitchen as they plate the food. And the food and service were THE BEST!!! Can't wait for next year!

Highly rated restaurant and with good reason. Food is excellent, as is the service. Nice wine list with plenty of good choices. Among the signature dishes is scallops with a tomato-vanilla sauce. My wife thought the vanilla a bit strong, but the scallops were great. We happened in on a Thursday evening when oysters are always half-price, so that made... More

We very much enjoyed fine dining at 555 in Portland ME. Nice atmosphere. Creative treatment of food without being over the top. The 5-course tasting menu had many choices with appropriate-sized servings. Grilled caesar salad was great. Service was attentive but not intrusive. Really what dining out should be.

I wandered in off the street and ate at the bar. The soup was outstanding, but they got my order wrong after that. Bartender seemed distracted and not particularly friendly. I think if you eat in the main dining room the service might be more consistent with the quality of the food.

Everything was perfect. I had the best dinner I have ever eaten in many years of fine dining. We ordered the five course tasting menu where we were given choice courses, meaning that I didn’t have to surreptitiously slip fois gras or oysters onto my partner’s plate. Hints of good things to come began with an amuse bouche, a perfect... More

our family of 7 went there to celebrate a special occasion. we have always loved this place. steamed mussels were totally off so we sent them back. one of us had the lobster mac and cheese, barely a cupful.. and the lobster was not fresh. another had the steak, very small and tasteless. 300.00 dollars later,( mussels not taken off... Hello, I am so sorry you were not happy with your five fifty-five experience. We were aware that you were not happy and we did try to rectify the situation as best we could. (incidentally, we did want to make you aware that the mussels were taken off your bill...). Certainly, we would be happy to do whatever it takes... More

Fabulous This was without a doubt the best meal we had on our “foodie trip” to Portland. Everything was right, the atmosphere – an old firehouse, the server – delightful, and the food – over the top great. My husband ordered hanger steak and rated it a 10. I ordered halibut. It was sweet and tender, not overly cooked or... More

Quick overnight through a "foodie" town, we chose 555 for dinner. Service was outstanding, the restaurant was comfortable, clean, sophisticated. My husband chose the 7 course prefix menu, I chose 5. We thought our dinner was outstanding, however, the wine selections were not. They were just okay. If we were to do it again we would likely just order a... More
