As a Greek I know good Greek food, and this place has it, at least as well as American food supply can deliver. But the prices are rather high, and it is easy to run up a big bill here.

There are a few restaurants that are always excellent. Even after many years Emilitsa's still remains in top form. No matter how they prepare fish it is always full of original flavors. Their Moussaka is extraordinary. The desserts are always excellent.

By far the BEST Greek meal we have ever had! From grilled to perfection lamb chops to the chef inspired pork special the family recipes continued to delight.Greek chocolate transformed into luscious cheesecake topped our meal. Congratulations to chef Niko and all of their excellent staff in making us feel like family!

This place was exceptional in every way. Fabulous food and flavors and great service. Authentic and memorable. John really knows how to make a customer feel welcome. We shared a great conversation. Kendra helped me navigate the menu and made great suggestions.

Portland has many great restaurants, but Emilitsa is THE BEST !! Every aspect of the experience makes all the senses hum. The only thing better would be if we were in Naoussa, my favorite place in the Greek Isles. The welcoming owner John makes you feel like family, his brother is a master chef, it's a warm and relaxing atmosphere,... More

Management response:

Thank you for the kind words. One correction however, my brother the Master Chef has turned over the reigns in the kitchen to his son Master Chef Niko, and he is doing a great job of carrying on the tradition. JR More

Fantastic foodie Greek in Portland Maine. Not your grandfathers Greek and one of the best Greek restaurants in the Americas. A modernized stepped up version of traditional Greek dishes. The scallop appetizer in an ouzo cream feta sauce was excellent as was the locanico (Greek sausage) over toast. A blackberry martini was refreshing. Greek wine surprisingly good. The moussaka was... The experience started when the owner John called to confirm our reservation. When my wife and I showed up we were greeted by John and given great seats that overlooked the whole restaurant. From there the waiters we had were very helpful and informative and you could tell they really liked working there. The food was amazing and the lamb... More

We tried Emilitsa for the first time last weekend, and will definitely be back. The meal began with a complimentary dipping spread, and was followed by the delicious scallop appetizer. The grilled swordfish was skewered with sweet pepper and onions, and served over a bed of rice and sauteed spinich. My husband had the grilled pork - which was prepared... More

I frequent Greek restaurants as often as I can. That said, Emilitsa is not your typical Greek food restaurant. Cozy is an understatement. Literally walking in you are transported right to the old country. A snowstorm outside, we laughed when we received a disapproving look when we asked to sit in a booth rather than in the window, after all... More

Authentic Greek food, terrific wine selections, and a welcoming atmosphere. I sampled a variety of appetizers - octopus, rabbit, and braised ribs - and was delighted with each bite! Carly, our waitress, enthusiastic, attentive, and especially patient with me as I unsure of the wine list - all Greek wines - and all new to me. She picked out 2... More
