While the restaurant offers nothing in ambiance, the chowder was full of seafood. The broth was light and tasty. I wanted to tell the owners that with a little tlc, the ambiance could be refreshed. The black painted wood floors should be stripped and coated with a marine grade poly to brighten it up. Please wash the light fixtures and... More

We were shopping and stopped in for a lunch. The choices were many. We loved the seafood chowder. The service was awesome and very friendly.

I was really looking forward to having a lobster roll. I use to live in Maine and I miss the seafood there. Their lobster rolls were $20.00 for a hot dog roll size sandwich. Too bad these college towns and other tourist towns have to take advantage of the people coming to visit. I asked why so expensive, and they... More

I paid $7 for a bowl of potatoes in cream. It was supposed to be a seafood chowder, but there was on one shrimp and one small scallop, but no actual flavor. Nothing. The people were nice enough. Overall , I will never go back and hope more people read these reviews first-- I should have !

Went for lunch here with my wife and two sons. The seafood chowder was just plain awful. Lived in New England all my life and make my own from scratch. This was atrocious. The cold lobster roll was a perfect example of culinary laziness. To add insult to injury the prices are so far out of whack. 7.99 for a... More

We were really in the mood for some great New England Clam Chowder, and were very excited to try the Freeport Chowder House on our last visit to Freeport. What a truly awful disappointment it was. I do not write negative reviews very often, nor do I write them casually, but this place failed to live up to even the... More

The meal was mediocre but overpriced, the staff was somewhat friendly, the place wasn't very clean, and the chowder was scolding hot. My tongue still hurt 3 days later...

In a town full of tourist trap restaurants this place is the worst. The place is dirty. The prices are high. The food is terrible and could seriously sicken you. The staff - appeared to be a grandfather and granddaughter - fought with each other the whole time we were were there. Maybe it was good at one point. Stay... More

The chowder was watery and not very flavorful and the fried clams were mediocre at best. We decided to try it because the place was packed and we figured the food must be great. We were very disappointed!

After trying several places along the coast of Maine, closed for the season, we journeyed to Freeport and found the Freeport Chowder House. We shared a lobster roll, delicious, and both had Haddock chowder. There was plenty of fish, potatoes and onions in the chowder. While sitting there and eating a large group came in and were expressing dissatisfaction in... More
