We have eaten here several times and keep coming back. The stuff mushrooms for an appetizer or a recommended. Étouffée entrée is also recommended. The trip to the bathroom will take you back in time with the old toilet tanks hanging high on the wall.

When friends come from out of town, we always take them to The Cabin for a good meal. The restaurant is a converted historic plantation, adorned with old memorable artifacts. The food is very good, usually prepared by an outstanding New Orleans experienced chef . The gumbo is superb, and seafood dishes are the best. I love the way steaks... More

I've eaten there many, many times since it opened in the early 70's. Food is always excellent, especially the seafood. It's a good place to stop when you're taking visitors to the plantations and River Road. I like to order several different dishes and let everyone serve family style. That way you can get a fantastic assortment of many Louisiana/Creole/Cajun... More

Our party of four stopped in for dinner on a Saturday night. Cute place, but our first clue should have been there was almost no one there. With few options and a tired group, we stayed. The staff were pleasant enough, but the food was sub-par at best. My etouffee smelled and tasted fishy, and not in a good way.... More

My wife and I like to call ahead on a cold winter evening and reserve a table by the fire place. The food is cosistantly good and this place has tons of character.

We met family there for a nice dinner and we were not disappointed. The fried catfish was hot and crispy - topped with crawfish etouffee! Everyone in the group was happy with their sides - cole slaw, potato salad, baked potato. I was a little disappointed that the gumbo was not hotter in temperature - maybe it had been microwave... We stopped at this restaurant, based on reviews, on our way to New Orleans. The atmosphere, history, and food were great. We enjoyed blackened shrimp and catfish with steamed veggies. We would definitely stop again.

One of the best meals on our trip was at the Cabin Restaurant. Staff were gracious and accommodating. The food was fabulous. Our entrees were very good but the sides were the stars. The best dirty rice, red beans and rice, and andouille sausage. To get there, we drove I-10 from Lafayette with a stop near Beaux Bridge for the... More

If you are visiting the many magnificent antebellum plantations along the River Road on the banks of the Mississippi River between Baton Rouge and New Orleans, you should stop at the Cabin Restaurant for lunch or dinner. If you cater to Cajun/Creole cooking, that is. Located at 5405 Louisiana Highway 44 in Gonzales, Louisiana, the Cabin Restaurant was established in... More

Great "home cooking" food! I had "The Cabin Special" of chicken & sausage gumbo, jambalaya & black-eyed peas! Plus extras of cornbread and potato salad and great sweet tea! My husband had a shrimp poboy with loads of shrimp!! So good! The Cabin is unique and worth the drive!
