Great food two blocks down from Churchill Downs. You may miss the restaurant if you are driving fast. Right on the corner. Nice staff, food was amazing It came out quickly. I had the Camarones a mojo ajo. It was delicious. Our group tried the Alambre and Carne Asada and everyone really loved their food. Hibiscus, passion fruit and pineapple frescos fruit juices were really good also.

Salsa was very interesting, but in a great way! Never had flavors like their salsa had before. I ordered the birra tacos and they were amazing! My parents ordered a burrito and Pollo plobano, they were both happy with their meals. My son rates their refried beans as "pretty good" and proceeded to eat 3 plates of them. I would suggest that for dine in you arrive prior to 630. We went on a Wednesday at 6:10 and was no wait and quiet but by 6:45 it was super loud and people were waiting outside to get in. 🙃

Came here for a pre-track meal and was wildly impressed by the quality of the food at the price we got it! Ambience wasn't much but my pork dish was succulent, clean and full of flavor. Rest of my party felt very much the same way about their dishes as well - truly a little gem in the Bluegrass State.

Amazing food and service. Best Mexican in Louisville. Get the authentic style fish and shrimp tacos...outta this world. Best I’ve had since Nogales.

Friends suggested we try El Molcajete for a casual dinner located near Churchill Downs and University of Louisville so super easy to get to. I was skeptical and have passed it many times before but WOW what a pleasant surprise. The salsa might be the best I have ever had. The food really good. The service very nice and efficient, even with a busy night crowd. It is not fancy, but it is now on my favorite list anywhere. I agree with one of the other reviews...just go! Great for a casual date or with family or casual business meal.

You have no excuse. It is the best Mexican food I have ever had. The fajitas were on point. The food was the closest to authentic I have ever had. The sauces definitely warm but the flavor was not lacking.

Family loves great Mexican food and we are fairly picky. We are from Texas and I was doubting we could find good such Mexican food! But I will say this place was very good! We tried things from the tacos, enchiladas and the big burrito smothered and the sopa. Everything was excellent flavor! My personal favorite was the cheese enchilada with the red sauce!

Love Mexican food so thought I would give it a try. Sunday afternoon, not very busy, service was slow however. The chips were very good, but the salsa tasted like bbq sauce asked if they had anything else the answer was no. The fish tacos were over cooked and tasteless. My wife had the Chile relleno, not good. The plates were cold when served compared to very hot at most places. The guacamole was excellent however. Will not be back.

I heard about El Molcajete from a television show and decided to check it out. We were able to find a seat immediately, but it took a while to be acknowledged by the waitress. The salsa was great, and I loved the additional sauces. The huevos divorciados were amazing!! The concept of huevos rancheros but with red and green salsa instead of simply ranchero sauce. All in all, I’d absolutely return. Just not at a peak time.

The staff was attentive (even if there was occasionally a language barrier) and the food was delicious. The food seemed to take a while but that may have had more to do with us being in a hurry. I had the chile relleno and really enjoyed it.

In the shadows of the glamour of Churchill Downs and the enormity of Cardinals Stadium, you find this run down area of Louisville - the juxtaposition could not be more obvious. And here you find this little Mexican restaurant that is rather good. The guacamole was very good and the various tacos, burritos, and fajitas that we ordered were also very good. Topped off with Mexican sodas (Jarrito's), we had a very cheap, filling meal. If you are staying at an airport hotel in Lousiville and you have a car, it is well worth the short drive.

We were able to sit right away as we had been there at lunch. We received our chips and salsa. The chips were stale. The salsa was not salsa. It was a brown taco sauce looking concoction. No tomatoes, onions, cilantro, etc. Well, we were apprehensive to stay, but whwn I opened up the menu, i was treated with a used baby bib. Not very pleasant. Needless to say, we git up, paid for our drinks and left. I will DEFINITELY not return.

If your driving a big vehicle parking will be a challenge but once parked you'll be in great shape. We were at Churchill Downs and discovered this place through a recommendation. Even saw a couple of Horse racing celebrities while we were there. The food is great! Fast service and cold beer served. The inside décor is spartan but we came for the food. Each of us tried a different meal which is served with fresh made salsa and chips. The Queso and sausage dip is great as is the Guacamole which I believe to be restaurant made. Restaurant is within walking distance of the trck and very close to the Stadium.

We have returned to this little place four times in a month. That says a lot. We have ordered everything from fish tacos to the dinners for a family. GOOD MEXICAN FOOD AND GOOD PRICES.
