The Drive between Kampala and Gulu is a slog and the relief of parking at the Kabalega diner cannot be described. You can have a nice cup of brewed Ugandan Coffee, hot food and a cold drink. The staff are really lovely, they now feel like family. There is a shady garden if you wish to eat under the trees.... More

This diner is right off the road on the way from Kampala to Gulu. It is clean, with decent food and washrooms. The service was fine and the Coke was cold! If you find yourself needing to stop on your journey, this is a good place to do it for a rest, a bite to eat, and a pit stop... More

Always stop here when making the trip between Kampala and Gulu. It's a great place to get out, stretch your legs, sit outside and have a cold drink. The food is decent although a bit pricey...it is the only place like this to stop so I suppose it can afford to be. It is right by the Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary... More

We stopped to have lunch here after visiting the Rhino Sanctuary as its the only place to get something to eat in that area. The food was okay, but not spectacular. It took a long time for the food to arrive. They forgot my order so while the rest ate I had to wait for my food to be prepared.... More

A nice location besides the road from Kampala to Juba, close to the Rhino sanctuary. A welcome place to suspend driving for a while. There are not many restaurants in this road stretch. To be honest: this is the only one. You can sit on the veranda or in the garden. Many safari people and other tourists like to come here... More

Thank you for your excellent description of the Diner. We are sorry to hear that the food has degraded in your experience, especially for a loyal customer. Please draw the manager's attention next time any order is not satisfactory and we will try to address it immediately. As you know, costs for all commodities have risen due to many factors... More

Stopped here for a quick bite on the way from Murchison to Kampala. The food took ages to come, the options were all expensive and not really worth it. The staff were friendly and helpful though.

We made an effort to drive past Ziwa to eat at the Kabalega, based on a VERY positive write up in Bradt (Edition 8). What a disappointment. The toilets were fine and the premises clean and tidy, but the menu was average and they had no liver, fish or bananas - what restaurant in Uganda can have those items on... More

The food might take a while to come through. When it comes through. It is totally worth it. Their steak is worth trying. Very patient waiters. The prices are affordable. Food ranges from 15.000 UGX. If you want a less congested place to eat out a you he's towards Gulu. It is worth the stop. Would recommend this place. It's... More

My wife and I were on a guided trip through Uganda, and stopped here the last day for lunch. Very pleasant environment. Nicely landscaped lawn. Had some souvenirs which are not real easy to find in Uganda. And all 3 of us enjoyed our meal in the outdoor dining area.

The Kabalega diner is a great place to stop for a meal. It is clean, the staff are polite and efficient, the food quality is superb and the restrooms are always clean. They also have some local handicrafts that appeal to tourists. An extra service allows you to call ahead so your food will be ready when you arrive.
