Shakes are great. Pie slices small. Fried mushrooms were a huge disappointment. Greek salad was good.

We returned to Hamburg Inn after many years. As they say it is never the same. It has been over 40 years. It has been updated of course but there is memorabilia throughout the restaurant. The food was good. Better than I remembered and much cleaner than the "old days". The service was good which was also better than I... More

I really wanted to eat here because it is such a local landmark. Never again! I asked the waitress what I should order and she suggested hamburger or tenderloin. I ordered the fried tenderloin, with mac & cheese and sweet potato fries. (I know-carb city!) The tenderloin was about half the size of other places in the area and mostly... More

This local hangout has been a must stop for national politicians since Reagan. Friendly atmosphere. Hearty diner food served well.

If you like to hit the local places to eat and skip the chains...go to Hamburg Inn. Right off of downtown Iowa City (walking distance but they also have free parking). They are the perfect place for breakfast or a bison burger. Great coffee and casual atmosphere. They have heart healthy, gluten free and vegetarian options as well....but really all... More

Stopped in before a home football game...we had a group of 6 and we came early enough (around 8 am) and were able to get a table and eat within an hour. Great food, great fun!

Yes it is an area icon, many brass hats of all varieties have broken their fast here. Ignore all of that and it is your average neighborhood breakfast place. Cheerful help serving average fare. The Denver omelette was as expected, well made but nothing special, both the American fries and hash browns were so average they barely mattered on the... More

Their Tater Topper is a family favorite. Choice of potatoes on the bottom with cheese, style of eggs and omelet ingredients. So much food! Very delicious. There will always be a line but totally worth the wait.

Pie slice shakes were good, breaded pork tenderloin, mac and chz, and bacon cheeseburger were all good. A little cramped, but it was part of the atmosphere.
