We've heard so much about the Hamburg Inn and the famous people who have visited that we were extremely surprised at the size of the restaurant. This tiny restaurant offers great food at a very reasonable price. We felt fortunate to be seated within 15 minutes of our arrival as the wait time when we were leaving was much longer.... More

Had breakfast, more than I could eat. Gluten free bread a big plus, I normally have to skip toast with my eggs.

Just passing thru town and needed a snack so stopped by here as we had heard about the shakes. I ordered the pecan pie shake and it was simply fantastic. Ice cream was great and the pie blended in was very interesting. My wife had the bison burger and it was just as great, low fat and tasty. Also located... More

Met family for a quick brunch the week of Christmas. We were surprised how busy it was at 10 am. We were able to be seated within a few minutes of arriving, and had excellent service. Pie shakes are a delicious treat to share!

We stopped for lunch after seeing and reading such great reviews about the food at the HamBurg Inn. Well we must of hit a bad day because our food was terrible. I had a breaded tenderloin with fries and Cole slaw. The tenderloin was burnt, overdone and dry, the Cole slaw looked and tasted like two or three day old... More

I have been to Hamburg dozens of times, and while people will say Bluebird or some other brunch place has the best breakfast in Iowa City, I disagree. With breakfast all day, delicious lunch fare, and their famous pie shakes, Hamburg is a unique and memorable experience. The decor gives the restaurant character and it has been frequented by multiple... More

Went the day after the Iowa game. Ok, this place is less about the food and more about the atmosphere and history. If you haven't been there, then go. You'll enjoy it. We get the basic old breakfast or a Zadar omelette. Portions are great, and people are fun to chat with. And they don't charge a different price based... More

Hamburg Inn #2 , better known as the Burg is a great place to eat. small , cozy, crowded at times. known by students and residents alike. it has been around since the 50's. It has hosted presidents, and Candidates for president. The only place you can vote with a coffee bean. What makes the Burg great is the food.... More

I took my team here for breakfast as I was feeling nostalgic from my days at the University of Iowa. Great breakfast with huge portions at a very reasonable price. Service was very prompt. We got there at 8:30 and were seated right away, but it was getting busy around 9:15 or so.
