Los Laureles is a very authentic Mexican restaurant in Des Moines, which has been in business over 25 years. It has great seafood cocktails, fish, Tacos, and a great menu with variety. It also has breakfasts. There is a variety of beers and Margaritas. Try it. It is the first of the original authentic Mexican restaurants in Des Moines....and with... More

My husband and I stumbled across this place when we were looking for a Mexican restaurant to grab lunch. They had a small variety of tacos for less than $2.00/pc that were fantastic! Now it's one of our go-to Mexican restaurants in Des Moines.

Quiet place, awesome service, but the food was nothing to write home about. It wasn't bad, but wasn't memorable either. Service made up for it though.

Hands down my favorite place for Mexican food in the whole city. Authentic and original. The salsa's are an awesome way to start your meal - three different ones for your dipping pleasure. And although I have tried a lot of items on the menu my go to is the carne asada tacos. You can not go wrong with them.... More

This was on the list of the top 50 restaurants to eat at in Des Moines Iowa so we tried it. So so good! The tacos are the best deal at only $1.79 each and you can order chicken, pork, beef, or even tongue if you want. Which by the way is very good. Just a short walk from the... More

When I make a point of stopping in at Los Laureles, a significant factor is that the menu goes beyond the commonly-offered standard Mexican fare you can get everywhere. Pleasant service. I'd call the prices mid-range. Not the least expensive anywhere, but I've not been disappointed there ever.

We just finished seeing the capital building and it was to busy in the area so this was just outside it. It is not the most interesting atmosphere but the food was good. I didn't find the bathroom very cleaned. My husband and me had a steak dish and the taste was very good. John asked for Sangria and they... More

the food is like any other mexican restaurant in des moines, nothing special, just average. i asked for salsa and they brought me as requested a tiny plate with salsa and charged me $2.50 for it which is ridiculous. is like being charged for a glass of tap water. will not return. was my 1st time

The staff is very attentive. The food is ok sometimes and not so good at other times. On my most recent visit the chips were cold and stale to the point that I did not eat them. Another review says they give you 3 dipping sauces, but I have only ever been given 2. The salsa is very thin (watery)... More
