Fantastic food big price!

First time visit to St Alma to the new addition in freshwater. The fit out is very well done. We sat at the bar and had good service. The food is very nice with an interesting mix and plenty to choose from. We would have happily come back until we got the bill. The very fine print at the bottom of each page (it’s not a brightly lit restaurant so very easy to miss) was a big surprise! Apparently on Friday and Saturday night they charged an extra 10% in each item so our $80 bottle of wine became $88 Then on top of that they charge another 10% gst and to top it all of a credit card surcharge of nearly $5 While we gave this 5 stars for food and ambiance , however we will never go back due to the additional charges.

Hot new dining experience in Freshwater

There is a restaurant of the same name (group) in Avalon so freinds suggested this new one in Freshwater. Being new perhaps the booking system (online, phone and text was a mess but eventully by phone ...6 calls . got a" session" booking. Wow such a breath of" new "for the area. Impressive decor, amazing bar and the large tuna and other fresh fish on display as you enter predicted we were in for something special. The service was absolutely first class in every way.....good service is so important to the experience. They have tasting packeges to share but as 2 of our guests dont eat fish we ordered seperate menue items. "Delicious" does not cover what we enjoyed so much. Although mexican influenced the menu is extensive and unique.....a work of art. The food is beautifully presented. Although not cheap with drinks we looked at the whole experience for a great night out and good value for the enjoyment we had. Everyone wants to go back with friends

Winning restaurant on every front - service, food and decor

You will not be disappointed with any aspect of your visit to St Alma. Sam mixes the most fabulous cocktails (St Alma does a menu choice labelled "Trust your chef". We went with that option and expanded it to include "Trust your barman"). We loved the choices of cocktails and the food. Must haves include the mushroom dish (even if you are a confirmed meat fanatic, the mushrooms will not disappoint) and the Sweet about Me and Cool as a Cucumber cocktails. Ribs were also amazing. And for once the service actually matched the quality of the food. Aren't you fed up of paying top dollar and getting incompetent or unfriendly service? Not an issue here. All professionals and incredibly helpful and accommodating.

Tasty food but expensive

Good atmosphere and restaurant fit out in a central location in Freshwater. The staff were friendly and attentive. The food was tasty but portion sizes were small for the price, especially the chips and guac starter. We visited on a Saturday so there was a 10% surcharge added. Overall I didn't find it good value.

Staff and service spoilt the night!

We went here on recommendation and will not be back. Service was below ordinary eg had to wait 20 minutes before asked if we wanted drinks, last drinks called before we received mains but staff were pouring themselves drinks until the time we left! Definitely got the feeling we were not wanted. To cap off bill was very expensive for ordinary food, only thing mexican were the corn chips!

Best night at the bar!

We loved spending our time with Bar manager Sam, and his bar team Angus and Steph, dining at the premium spot seated at the bar tonight. Sam is so knowledgeable about wines, and the bar team was high entertainment as we ate a delicious dinner. A very happy night spent at St Alma Freshwater. Thank you guys xxx

Worth the drive in the rain

Great food, well priced and knowledgeable service. Went with the “trust the chef” option. Couldn’t fault it. Definitely a return visit to try the bottomless margaritas.
