Stopped for lunch today, sat in the bar. Got my drink, chips, salsa, and menu right away. I looked over the menu several times, figured out what I wanted, and was kind of excited about it. Used all my salsa, ate most of my chips...and NEVER seen anyone. Finished my drink put some money on the bar and told the girl on the way out that I will never be back. Not like they were busy or did not have any help they ignored me! I went across to2n and ate a sub par meal at tumbleweeds but at least they WANTED my business!More

We live about an hour away from the restaurant and had heard great things. We went here on our Wedding anniversary, as my wife and I love mexican food. We were not dissapointed. It started off with the soft drink machine being broken and they...only offered water or tea. Not a great start. However, our server Tina was wonderful and hooked us up with some faboulous tea to drink. The large drink containers required no refills for either, as they were huge. The first test of any mexican restaurant is the chips and salsa. Their chips and salsa was amazing. They offer free chips and salsa and the chips and salsa were both fresh. I would give the chips and salsa a 10 out of 10 rating. We both had the chicken fajitas and they were very good. The restaurant was clean, the food was amazing, and Tina our server was very hospitable. Overall, I would give it 9.5 stars out of 10 stars. We plan on going back with our family again this weekend.More

I have already reviewed this restaurant at an earlier date but needed to bring a few things to the attention of the management since that last review. I do understand that this was a Sunday afternoon, and from the Help Wanted sign on the front...door, we expected service to be a bit slower than normal. We didn’t have any chips or salsa at our table until right before our meal was served and the chips were cold and over fried. The waiter didn’t write down our order, which should have been a warning. Husband ordered burrito and tamale, and got a taco and tamale, which was okay with him. My burrito came with a cheese sauce I did not order. The meal was lukewarm at best. The biggest complaint we had with our visit was the state of the bathrooms in the bar area. Neither the men’s nor the women’s bathroom had sinks to wash our hands, or any means to clean them whatsoever. We also noticed two servers come out of those bathrooms, and we wondered (hoped!) they washed their hands somewhere in the restaurant. Very disappointed with our visit today, hopefully they will get the help they need to serve people properly...and put some sinks in the bathrooms!More

Place has good food at good prices. Large menu and hard to pick a favorite as they have all been good so far.

I loved the Guacamole at this restaurant on the Courthouse Square in downtown Salem, Indiana. I also had a taco salad, which was excellent. My husband had a burrito, which he really liked too. The restaurant was so busy we had to wait a bit...for a table. The service was quite good with servers scurrying quickly to accommodate all the customers. This place is a real gem in small town Southern Indiana.More

El Maguey offers daily specials. They have wonderful quesadillas, but there are lots of other delicious specialties to sample.

In Salem, Indiana for a quick business transaction, my wife & I were ready for lunch. El Maguey was handy (right on the square) & recommended. Being tired of the Tex Mex norm, we were pleasantly surprised. The menu was different, the selection more varied,...& the food was better. We know where to stop when in the area. The one critique I might offer is that the taco beef is not seasoned as tasty as those lesser places. All-in-all, I prefer El Maguey.More

Visited here for the 1st time. Food, atmosphere and service were excellent. We visited on a Friday night and the place was pretty busy but everyone was friendly and the food was hot. This particular restaurant is located on the square in Salem.

We’ve eaten at many Mexican restaurants from Colorado, New Mexico to the east coast and down through Florida and without a doubt, this restaurant has the most extensive menu and the very best food. The flavors mingled and made our taste buds sing!

Good service. Delicious food exceeded our expectations, and bargain prices. There is an old saying: "Fast, good, cheap. Pick two out of three. You can't have all three." EXCEPT at El Maguey. Love this place!

Wife and I ate here last night for first time. Immediately seated upon arrival. I had the Arroz con Carne (rice and steak) and wife had the Chicken Nachos. Both were excellent and far exceeded our expectations! There was plenty of steak on my plate....It came with tomatoes, onions, and green peppers which I don’t care for but was easy to pick off. Wife had the house margarita and said it was very good. I ordered a glass of tea and it came in a carafe with a lemon on it and a tall straw. I was very pleased with this as a lot of places give a small glass with a lot of ice which causes the servers to have to run refills out. Our server was Christy and she was very good. She was on top of bringing baskets of chips and salsa, refills, and being attentive even with a large party she was attending to. At check out, the servers bring a tablet to run the debit card in front of you which is nice. We will definitely be back soon and request her section.More

Wanted to meet my daughter in Salem and have dinner since it is a halfway point between us. I picked El Maguey because of their ratings on Trip Advisor. I left there a little disappointed. My daughter liked her fajita nachos. Her boyfriend ordered Cake...by the Ocean drink and Enchiladas Supremes. He loved the drink but didn't like the meal. The manager did replace his meal with nachos supreme, which he liked. I ordered Pollo Azteca (pictured) which looked good but didn't have much flavor and the chicken was dry. They also forgot to send out the plate with the cold toppings. The best thing about the restaurant was our waitress, Tara. She was very friendly with a bubbly personality. Thumbs down on food but thumbs up on service.More
