Homers is a special treat for us. We would love to go every day but our wastes thanks us for not. The ice cream is delicious and the flavors are enticing. Even the no sugar added vanilla is way above average.

I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream...Homer's Ice Cream, that is. Located at 1237 Green Bay Road in Wilmette, Illinois, one of Chicago's posh north shore suburbs, Homer's has been satisfying sweet teeth since 1935. Legend has it that infamous gangster Al...Capone, who had a lakefront home in nearby Glencoe, was a frequent visitor. In fact, owner Gus Poulos recalled that Capone was one of his most pleasant customers. He couldn't say otherwise, could he? But Gus's sons, Steve and Dean, have continued to carry on the business. It's still on the original site. No need to establish other locations. If you have a superior product, they'll all come, right? Homer's has earned accolades as "Best Ice Cream in Chicago" and "Best Ice Cream on the North Shore" and "Top 10 in the nation" and "First in the nation" and "National Gold Medal for best ice cream three years in a row." Talk about a full-service ice cream shop, Homer's offers something of everything...ice cream, yogurt, sherbet, sorbet, burgers, hot dogs, gyros, Italian beef, Philly cheesesteaks, fish 'n chips, sandwiches and salads. Dine-in, takeout and delivery. My wife and I have our favorites, including rainbow sherbet (raspberry, lime, orange) and strawberry and lemon sorbet. Of the 42 flavors of ice cream, we can't resist apple cinnamon, butter pecan, oreo cookie, coco chocolate almond chip, rocky road, spumoni, fresh peach, strawberry, egg nog, coconut, pecan praline, chocolate chip cookie dough, caramel and toasted coco-pineapple. It's hard to make a single choice. We always take home at least three different flavors. Legend has it that Al Capone loved chocolate chip.More
When you need a real ice cream fix on the North Shore, this place should be your first stop. Established Wilmette ice cream parlor on busy Green Bay Road.
Great home made ice-cream. I like the peach ice-cream with fresh peach every summer. It is the go-to place for the neighborhood kids for ice-cream. The restaurant deco could use a bit update.
We’ve been coming here for about 40 years but it’s been a couple years since last here..... and the size of the scoop is now a child’s portion. I guess if they’re committed to fighting heart disease it’s one way to do it. Flavors are...excellent with the peach and peppermint our favorites. Even the cones are tiny now.... Graeter’s also makes rich ice creams and the portions are a better value.More
When the temperatures soar on the North Shore there is no better place to grab a delicious, cold treat than Homer's Ice Cream Company. This is gourmet ice cream at its finest, not the cheapest but certainly among the best. There is a reason Chicagoans,...going back to the days of Al Capone, have been flocking to Homer's for more than 80 years.More
We've been coming to Homer's since I was a kid in the 1970's. It's always been a favorite lunch spot and I always make sure to bring home a variety of ice cream for the freezer. Homer's is a pure part of Wilmette....!
Homer's is a Wilmette treasure. Their ice cream is incomparable. The setting is campy quaint and the staff are usually local young adults. Their other food is also pretty good, but leave room for the real star: their ice cream!
I have relatives here and I took them for some Ice Cream, three orders of double scoops in a cup and one single scoop with two Gummy bear toppings . $20
Homer's has been a institution in Wilmette for as long as I can remember. I actually remember when it was only a ice cream parlor. Then they added food. So lets split this review up in 2. First the Ice Cream. It is very good....I usually get a vanilla malt. Most of the time it is excellent, but there are those times where it is not as thick/a bit liquidity. When peaches are in season they are known for their peach ice cream. Second is the Food side. When it first opened the food was excellent, but lately it has been just average to below average. I think Mustard's Last Stand does a better job, but for their younger clientele I am sure the food is just fine. I remember when they redecorated the place back in the early 80's when they expanded and added food and nothing has been done since. The best way I can put it is the seating area's are tired. Tables wobble and the decor is dated. If anyone from Homer's reads this may I suggest if/when you do remodel go with a vintage ice cream parlor feel. I will still go there and get a malt, but take it outside and enjoy it on one of their benches on a warm summer day!More
