We highly recommend this restaurant. The food (Latin Fusion that leans more Mexican) was great. The tacos had really good flavor. The ceviche tostadas were fresh. A variety of salsas and each one tasted good. The poblano pepper soup was fantastic. They also have excellent...drinks. Ask them to spice up the original margarita. They will add some jalapeño before they shake it up. It's so good. The service was also very attentive and helpful. Don't let the outside fool you (it's in an out of the way, unassuming strip mall). The food and drink is definitely worth the visit.More

Nice little Mexican restaurant with small plates & custom fresh cocktails. Service is very attentive, fish tacos are flavorful!

First I will say what I give stars for. 5 rating system. location, design(decor), service, food and price. Al Chulo got 3 stars for location which is very easy to find and leave. Two for the decor and looks of the place. Very nicely done....Three, for the service. They are very friendly it did take about 30 minutes for a pickup but they were very nice. Now the other 2 stars. This is my issue with this place. I order a Cemita and if you are not familiar with them, they are delicious and normally about the size of a Torta between 6-10 inches. This one is no more than 4" and feels, looks and taste more like a burger than an original Cemita poblana. The price, this is where it kills it for me. That 4" Cemita is $10!! Ridiculous, within a 5 miles radius you will find places that sell Cemitas for less and not only are they bigger but they even give you fries to go along. Not that it needs it. Again, for the price, size and taste is not worth it to me.More

The food was great! Our server said to try cactus on one of our orders. It was perfect! The drinks are clever; mine was a hibiscus margarita, my date had a spicy slice of lime in his margarita. The music was just right.

Latin restaurant featuring a great tapas menu. Tacos come four to an order. We tried the pork, chicken and steak. They were all delicious. The quest fundido was great as well. Expansive margarita menu. Industrial vibe located in a strip mall. Need to really pay...attention so as not to miss it.More

The owner refused to honor the terms of a gift certificate that we purchased through a local radio station that this business has an agreement with. This is no way to treat new customers and grow your business. I guess that's why the place was...completely empty except for my wife and I. We had a very unpleasant experience at Al Chulo and I do not recommend this business.More

I have reviewed this restaurant before, but wanted to again because of how consistently good they are. It says something when my daughter has her first communion and this is where she wants to go. This past time, my with and I went on a...date. Rule was try something we haven't before, which is slim pickings of all we have tried over our visits. One of them was Al Hongo, a queso fondido, similar to a taco with more Chihuahua cheese. I wasn't looking forward to it because I'm a foodie, and mushrooms are one of my 2 ingredients I don't care for. I ate 2 of them and said we should order these next time. Hope you enjoy it as much as my family and I do.More

I hope they make it, certainly deserve to, but the location is a serious problem. To get into the restaurant is very challenging - no matter which way you are approaching, and equally as challenging to leave. That said they have fantastic margaritas, really outstanding...gourmet tacos. Pleasant staff, nice decor (maybe a bit dark), small space feels intimate.More

There have been a series of good Mexican restaurants in this site, but they all seem to have the same issue. Good food, but typical Mexican and not cheap. I like the interesting food but I think it is a bad fit for the area....While West Chicago is half Latino, the only Latino customer in the full restaurant was my wife. So if you are not catering much to the locals, people have to travel to get there. That said, the food was good, the service was slow and you will never see the chulo because it is too dark. Decorations didn't fit, they look like they got them from the 60s.More

I liked everything from the minute I walked in. Low lighting, friendly and attentive service, and the food was wonderful. They have shared plates so you can try several. My drink was pineapple with a chipotle ice cube and as it melted, it had more...zing. Fun!More
