Attended for a wake. Good service, excellent buffet and generally a nice gastritis pub! Close to Reading but a nice semi rural location.

We dine at the Highwayman every month or two. It’s consistently good, with friendly staff, excellent food, and good location. The set lunch is great value, and the A la Carte menu offers a wide choice of dishes. The Sea Bass is always a favourite,...More

I'm running out of great things to say about The Highwayman. Always welcoming, always delicious, always busy - the sign of a good, we'll run establishment. Just go and see!

Very popular pub for an out of the way location. Tricky to get parked, but worth the effort to go there. Best to book a table to be sure of a place, especially on popular times. Mind your head as you go in, the door...More

Pre-ordered my meal as part of a group: got pea soup as a starter, a veggie curry thing for main and sorbet and fruit salad to finish. There was even a choice! Very impressed with their attitude.

We last visited the Highwayman back in 2015 and were not that impressed. However, we have recently heard good things about it, so decided to give it another go. What a change, the food was delicious and the service both efficient and friendly. I started...More

Description
The Highwayman Inn is located in a beautiful hamlet near Checkendon, on the Berkshire, Oxfordshire border, only an hour from London and 20 minutes from Reading and Henley on Thames. The pub dates back to the 16th century and still retains some of its original characteristics. Our aim is to create a warm and welcoming atmosphere in comfortable surroundings in which to enjoy our award winning food. We are committed to using local suppliers and produce with above all an eye for quality. If things go wrong or are not to your taste then please talk to us. We are genuine people that work really hard and care about what we do. We are always happy to listen to comments that will help us to improve our business and product. We want you to have an experience that is what you wanted and expected. It is disappointing enough to know that we have not given the best of ourselves but to read it later on the internet when it could have been dealt with at the time is frustrating and upsetting.Whether in my establishment or any other talk to the staff treat them with respect and they will work that much harder for you.
