Unfortunately, it was not a great experience. I was really looking forward to this dinner. We were at a conference across the street and walked/ran over in the bitter cold. I couldn’t wait for a nice hot tea pot of jasmine tea. Ah no, they...only had a mugs of black or green tea that were delivered cold. I think they used the microwave to heat them up—Strike One. We had reservations and asked for a booth. Ah no, that’s for a reservation. We thought that was for four people and we were two. Turns out they sat two other ladies there. When my friend brought it up, they replied that they had a reservation. My fiend replied that we did have a reservation. Their reply was that our reservation was for 5p. Ah no, it was for 5:45. We decided to sit at the sushi bar and forgo the dining room—Strike Two. We engaged with sushi chef and continued our culinary journey. The food was fair, the best was unagi that was cooked—Strike Three.More

Makisu Sushi Lounge & Grill is located on the southwest corner of Touhy Ave. & Carpenter Ave. (Central Ave.) in the Village Crossing shopping center. There is plenty of parking in the lot. Though there are a dozen or more restaurants in the very immediate...area, Makisu Sushi is definitely the "go to" place, especially if you are looking for excellent sushi. They do have some other entrees, as well, some being what I would put in to an Asian fusion class. We were seated immediately in a very clean & well-maintained restaurant with a contemporary, but Japanese, decor. Our server, Baasansuren, was there quickly and took our sake and appetizer order immediately. We chose the house sake and then for an appetizer we chose the Makisu tartar which was tortilla chips with spicy salmon tartar. We decided to go slowly and order a couple of selections over time, rather than order everything immediately. For our first sushi roll, we ordered the "tootsie roll". The second was the white dragon roll. Our final sushi selection was the spider roll. Everything was very fresh and tasted great. We also decided on sharing a dessert, so we chose the warm double chocolate layer cake with whipped cream which looks so good that the calories are transmitted by osmosis... Our server, Baasansuren, was very efficient, friendly and personable. The prices were just slightly above average, but worth it.More

I've been here for lunch and dinner and I have to say I am very impressed. The california roll is one of the tastiest I have ever had and their tempura is also very good. On our last visit the server was a little spacey,...but the food was delicious as always. Will happily return here.More

Very nice Japanese fusion restaurant and sushi bar with extensive menu. The sushi and sashimi are fresh and good. Entrees were more Japanese fusion. We had the Chilean sea bass entree and it was fantastically moist and tasty (there are 2 types of sauces and...ask for the same sauce used on the appetizer sea bass). Others had a beef dish which they loved. The miso soup was one of the best I've had. Price wise we left for under $40 a head for appetizer, drinks and entree. My local family considers this a hidden gem. Will definitely revisit next time in town.More

Enjoyed our dinner at Makisu! I ordered the Salmon Teriyaki and it was delicious! The sauteed veggies which accompanied the entree were beautifully presented and excellent tasting as well. Other dinners ordered included Chicken Teriyaki, Scallop Crab Cake and the Tempura Small Plates - everyone...was very happy. Miso Soup is included with the entrees.More

My boyfriend and I recently chose this restaurant due to its proximity to the Village Crossing movie theater. We were both completely impressed. The service was wonderful. The waiter checked on us regularly and made us feel well cared for. The food was excellent. My...boyfriend ordered a chicken teriyaki dish. At a lot of places when you order this dish it is more like an appetizer. Here it was a full meal with stir fried vegetables and rice. Yum. The price was spot on for the quality of the food and service. The atmosphere was also warm and inviting. We will definitely go back and I have already been recommending this place to others.More

I had the Tatiki, miso soup, Kamikaze, and hot Sake. It was second visit. I love this place! I travel here monthly for work and I can walk here from my hotel so it's perfect! The service is great and fast! Good is way above...average. Fresh tasty and I will continue to come here every time I'm in town. Highly recommended:)More

During my visit to Skokie, I had the pleasure of eating at my quiche for other colleagues. The service was very attentive and friendly, and the sushi was delicious.
