Our meal was fabulous and so was our server, Ozvaldo (Ozzie). Appetizer was fresh sliced tomatoes with buratta, arugula and prosciutto. Excellent. Main course was Chilean seabass, which was buttery, cooked perfectly, and finished with a miso glaze accompanied by steamed bok choy. Absolutely outstanding!...And I'm a hard-to-please fish eater and retired chef. Service from Ozzie was friendly without being intrusive. Five stars without question.More

We stumbled upon the Rox City Grill while admiring the historical Baker Hotel. Only there for an after dinner drink and to catch some of the football game. Had we stayed longer they were having live music. Lovely hotel and bar with the gentleman beind...the bar very friendly. Wish I could recall his name but he has been working there for several years.More

We have been to The Rox City Grill 3 times in 2019. The first visit was a special occasion and we were looking forward to a nice dinner. We were not disappointed!! The service and knowledge of our server was phenomenal. We both had steaks...and they were out of this world. For dessert, the donuts are a must. Unfortunately, our second and third visits disappointed us. The servers on both occasions had very limited knowledge of the menu. Quite a change from our prior visit. Even of greater concern is that the food was just mediocre. It’s not an inexpensive dinner and between the service and the food it disappointed. May try it again but we will see.More

We were so excited to try this restaurant. We started with a charcuterie board to share and some wine which was excellent. We both ordered a TBone steak and they were so salty they were almost inedible. You have to try to make it that...salty, it was unreal. I have never sent back an order in my life but we did tell the waiter. The waiter was nice and offered to put in a new order. We decided we would try to deal with it. We spent the rest of the meal scraping off the steaks, smothering them in sauce to try to get rid of the ridiculous amount of salt. There was so much salt really nothing helped and each of us finished half of our steaks. The waiter said that we would get one free steak but not both since we each finished half of our steaks. I suppose that is fair, but we won’t be coming back. It was the worst $104 I have spent and the worst steak I have ever had.More

This restaurant is located in the Hotel Baker, which lends it a unique air. Not only that, but the food is actually good, which is not always the case in a setting like this. Our server was very friendly and helpful as well.

We just traveled from Maine and I have to say the lobster bisque (though an odd brown color) was one of the best I have ever had! You can tell the chef used the correct shell cook for broth and the chunks of lobster in...the soup were amazing! The chicken with risotto was exceptional! Large portion which I was more then happy to take home. My husbands New York strip was medium well to well instead of medium but he still enjoyed it. The donuts with three dipping sauces are delicious! They are large and you get a ton! We will recommend this to our family who lives in the area! Worth every dollar spent! Also, dirty martini with blue cheese olives was fantastic. Sad they weren’t busier for a Saturday night considering how fantastic our food was and our server was very friendly and personable!More

First vist for us. We ordered the chacuterie to share...it was adequate with 3 cheeses, a couple sliced meats, some pickles and pepppers. No dipping sauces, pate, terrine, proscuitto etc. We moved on to shrimp cocktail which we specifically asked about because the menu said”poached”....We were assured it would come chilled. It didn’t. Lastly we ordered their version of lobster bisque. It was very dark brown in color and not a scrap of lobster to be found, but it was very flavorful. The atmosphere was nice, the service was uneven...we had several servers that seemed not so co ordinated. Overall we felt for the price the value just wasn’t there. Would return for drinks but probably not for dinner.More

Very comfortable, wonderful service, and nice menu options. We have a variety of appetizers for our meal and enjoyed each of them. The Lobster Bisque soup was a favorite. We will be back another time for the dinner meal options. Later there was music that...we we would have liked but did not get the chance.More

Positives - we loved the crab cake appetizer, the miso sea bass, and the pesto crusted lamb. We also really liked our server - he was super nice and even though he was really busy he didn’t make us feel like he didn’t have time...for us. Drinks, appetizer, entree, and check were all timely. It was pricey, but I felt we got what we paid for and if we wanted to eat at McD’s, we would have. Weird issues - we made a reservation through TripAdvisor’s Open Table function which for whatever reason the restaurant didn’t get. They were actually not going to seat us but fortunately I had the confirmation and wasn’t taking no for an answer, so they did make room. I’m not one for public confrontation, so it was all a tad awkward. The decor....I’ve written a ton of reviews and this is the first time I’ve ever mentioned decor in a restaurant...this is in the Baker Hotel building. It’s a landmark. Would be neat if Rox played up that angle. It’s not ugly or anything, just doesn’t emphasize the coolness of the space the way it could.More

We stayed at the Hotel Baker in downtown St. Charles, in advance of catching Eric Johnson at the Arcada Theater. We needed dinner, so after wandering through the selections on Trip Advisor, and in light of the sub-zero temperatures predicted, we elected to "eat in"...at the Rox City Grille, which is inside the Hotel Baker lobby (on the left as you walk in). This is a nice, romantic restaurant. The lighting is low enough to be romantic, and high enough to read the menus - good job there. The place was a little cold when we arrived. A technician was working on it before we could even ask based on the hostess talking with him, and it warmed up quickly. The wine list was good - we ordered a bottle of Jordan Cabernet from 2014. The price was pretty good for the vintage. They had at least 24 wine selections - the Jordan was on the Reserve list on the bottom - make sure you consider those. They also had an extensive martini menu, but we were thinking wine tonight. We had an animated server, who was able to offer us some good advice on our dinner selections. All beef is locally sourced from Oswego or Malta, Illinois - some might cringe at that - if you do, read on. For our appetizer, we went with their seared tuna. It was served in layers of thin pastries and some great tasting salad mix. My wife and I were debating who was going to get the last piece - it was really good. I ordered their 8 ounce Filet Mignon, and my wife had their Sea Bass. First the filet (for those who turned their nose up at local beef). This was tender, properly seasoned, and tasted fantastic. It was a really great cut of tenderloin, and I cut it in small pieces to make the enjoyment last a bit longer. My wife's Sea Bass was litteraly melt-in-your-mouth tender. It tasted great - no fishy taste at all. You could tell the chef really cares here - presentation was excellent, and the food tasted great. We ordered dessert as well - I had their Key Lime pie, which included a toasted merangue on top, while my wife had their warm bread pudding with ice cream. Both were very tasty. Our wine and water glasses kept filled without asking. They start the meal with slices of a good French bread with unsalted butter, which was nice to munch on while our food was cooking. For such a good restaurant, with wine and tip, we ran up a bill. We got out just under $250, which honestly was worth it. Understand what you are getting into. The wine was $85, so if you cut that out, you can get out for less.More

We have been here several times. Parking is a pain, since it doesn't have a lot and you either park on the street down the street or in the garage across the street. But service is very friendly, we usually have Jacob and he is...very good. The drinks are fantastic. Apps are good, but main meals are standard. Nothing really stands out.More

Crab Cakes-No Taste A good majority of the mussels were out of the shell buried in the standard buttered up pool they sat in. Service- Nothing from our waitress until the check was due. EX: I couldn't get a glass of ice water for 20...minutes. In general, was way over her head.....in a place that carries a few tables. She puked the menu over and over like it was her first day. Completely blew my wife's main entree (on her birthday nonetheless) Meat-I didn't get the "we are just gonna glom the blue cheese in a lump on your super expensive piece of meat" thing. It's really not suppose to be like that. This was the first time in my life I ordered a quality piece of meat and could have done better if I brought a jar and a fork and covered the middle myself, with whatever. Wine Selection-They don't like Merlot for some reason. We had dinner on the north wall of the restaurant. I think they were rebuilding the Titanic on the other side thru our meal. WTF. Seriously. It might have been quieter if the CTA was rolling trains over our lap. Major pounding and actual vibrations while my wife and I talked about family etc. I would rather burn the 3 beans plus i pissed away at the sports bar down the street.More
