It pains me to say this, but my most recent experience just was not great...not even close to what it used to be when Da Luciano family ran this place. From service to quality and taste of food - unfortunately disappointing. I called on Thursday...to make a reservation for 11 for Sunday and also pre-ordered an off-menu appetizer (got a confirmation from the kitchen it would be ready). When we arrived, the table was set for 9 - OK, no big deal we waited a bit to get that situated. Then, when after about 15min the waiter came up to take drink orders he then brough wrong drinks. Appetizer that I pre-ordered was not possible so we ordered few different ones, then the main courses. After that order was taken, few minutes later the waiter came out with "bad news", saying that they were out of the white fish so 4 of us had to change courses. We went with veal saltimbocca...Which unfortunately was extremely salty, we could not finish, very disappointing. He also brought up a dish no one ordered so there was confusion. When I called to make the reservation, I also asked for a tray of their house tiramisu ($70) as we would cut that into pieces for dessert. When dessert time came - the pieces of tiramisu were frozen inside, which means they did not prep the tray as I asked. All in all, it was a very disappointing experience, especially since our party of 11 used to come to this restaurant over the course of the last 20 years for various celebrations. It felt cozy, with a family feel and really good food back then - something this place just no more has. It most likely was our last time there.More

The staff is still outstanding cocktails are good too. Food has hit the skids. Calamari was old and smelled horribly fishy. Couldn’t eat it. Clams served with cholula instead of Tabasco. Pasta sauce was bland. New owner isn’t maintaining quality and never leaves kitchen if...he’s even there.More

Da Luciano's used to be a River Grove favorite. Now it fails miserably. As a River Grove resident and one who has dined there for years, I know. But the business was sold early this year, and we are left with garbage. Do not bother...calling in for a pickup order. The teen they have handling the phone couldn't understand the simple pizza order I placed, and they left me standing there waiting for them to correct it. I miss Luciano. He would have made it right by comping my meal. I wanted to talk to the manager, but he was hiding somewhere in back. Do not waste you time with this place. It has gone to the dogs.More

Started by a family with members suffering Celiac, Da Luciano has a very wide selection of gluten free pastas and pizza. Gluten free is a separate menu so those who don’t require it can order from the regular menu. On both menus the quality is...superb.More

The gluten-free menu is certainly an asset for Da Luciano. But I'd rate it this highly even without that. The regular menu is top quality. If you are gluten-free, there is a complete menu for you (not 4 or 5 items, but almost as large...as the regular menu). My wife is gluten-free, and I'm not - and we can each order happily. They even make gluten-free bread! The pastas are terrific, the chicken and veal dishes are also delicious. Everything is freshly prepared, and the service is very friendly. During these Covid times, when all restaurants are finding it difficult to attract staff, service might a bit slow - but understandably so. This is now our Italian restaurant of choice. Even the gluten-free pizza is good!More

If you are gluten-free and you have not been here, what’s wrong with you? I came with my gluten-free wife and her gluten-free friend, after a pick up at O’Hare. My wife and I have been here before, so we knew what to expect, a...fantastic meal and gluten-free safety for her. On the gluten front, I went with the lasagna for the first time, it was huge and it was wonderful. My wife, went with her usual shrimp Parmesan, that is not on the menu, but they made it special for her. They should make this a menu item. Her friend went with the gluten-free lasagna, both were raving about it afterwards. For appetizers the eggplant is incredible.More

Rose and Luciano were incredibly nice and understanding when it comes to accommodating someone with Celiac Disease. They have a separate kitchen dedicated for the gluten free food prep, as four of their children have Celiac Disease. This was the best authentic Italian food I've...ever had. Almost everything on the menu can be made gluten free. They have a separate gluten free menu. We had the GF Fried Calamari, GF Baked Artichoke, GF Carbonara & GF Arancini de Rosi. It was all so delicious! I'd definitely go back! They also ship some of their foods and cater.More

We love stopping here when we can. My wife is Gluten free so, its always a treat for her as they have a dedicated GF kitchen and regular one. We started with a rolled GF Eggplant appetizer. Really excellent, 4 pieces, and the sauce was...great for dipping. Not on the menu she ordered GF Shrimp Parmesan…8 of them, and wished she had ordered 10. There was plenty for leftvoers. GF pasta was served on the side. On the non-GF front I went with Rigotoni Boscaiola. Large portioned very tasty Italian sausage and cream sauce. Before we left we ordered a Calzone and GF Pizza half cooked for the freezer. Also visited the freezer next to the counter and took some GF food home. The old parking lot is now a Starbucks, parking is available behind the restaurant in the city lot.More

We were a party of seven for dinner and most of us have eaten here before. It’s a nice family run neighborhood place with white tablecloths but unpretentious service. The menu covers all of the standard classics you can think of. There’s nothing original on...the menu but everything we had was well prepared, well seasoned and delicious, except for the gluten free manicotti (it was tough - they offer many gluten free pasta options). We ordered a variety of fish, pasta and chicken dishes. The only other complaint was that the gnocchi dish had way too much pesto sauce. The portions are huge, twice what you would normally get at most other Italian joints. For example, the chicken parm has two whole breasts, the Casalinga has two whole breasts AND a whole sausage AND big potato wedges. The service was friendly and attentive and the prices reasonable. We would not hesitate to go back. If not for the over-sauced gnocchi and the tough gluten free pasta I would have rated this Excellent.More

First went here a decade ago when it was much harder to find gluten free options (I have a family member who is highly allergic to gluten.) Over the years the restaurant has expanded but never lost its warm atmosphere or consistently good food. Love...their tomato sauce. I wish their side salads were better (bag lettuce and a slice of tomato - very uninspired, like they don't care about salads at all) but everything else has always been great.More

Both of y daughter have celiac so this is our go to for holidays and special occasions. They have an entire separate kitchen for their gluten free. Almost their entire menu is replicated GF. Their “regular”. Italian menu is awesome as well. We are here...almost every other month. My daughters especially love the cannoli and tiramisu.More
