Walked our dog across the Wingreen byway and back then popped in for a late afternoon drink before driving home. Nice looking pub, clearly set up for eating rather than drinking/relaxing etc though. No comfy seating areas, all wooden tables and chairs. Slow bar service - barmaid got my wife a glass of wine but didn't know how to make... More

Came this little pub randomly but I am so glad I did! Our food was great, varied and very much locally sourced as much as possible! We are coming back for a break next time!

Wonderful country pub! Fabulous food, the staff is lovely and attentive! Always a great time when we go. The atmosphere is cozy and welcoming, makes you feel at home every time. They have a great seasonal menu, fish and chips are wonderful! Definitely a must visit spot!

Had a drive out from Salisbury to visit this restaurant, very narrow road leading up to it with small carpark, not overly busy but had to double park. Looks like a small almost not existent garden area but does have outside tables. Very nice ambience inside, very dog friendly, attentive staff, very friendly owners. Great beer, good wine list to suit... More

This is a good, well run pub restaurant in a quiet location. The expertise and experience of the manager and his staff is self evident and it is a well oiled machine producing good food in an atmospheric setting. The rooms are comfortable and well maintained - I have given 4 not 5 stars as I had problems with lowering... More

Perfect pub food served with great style by friendly staff. A large, friendly and comfortable dining room. Interesting menu perfectly prepared and served, basically using local ingredients. Very good value for money and well worth a detour

We had been to the King John Inn before and was impressed so we booked lunch for 12 as part of a walking weekend. The staff were very friendly and they had our table ready for us. Drinks were delivered quickly and at the same time our order was taken. The food was excellent, nicely presented and well cooked. Very... More

We found the food at the King John Inn to be outstanding. The burger was wonderful, and the fries some of the best-cooked that I have had. The best dish for me was chicken Milanese with capers which was so well done. Clams and chorizo start was unusual and tasted amazing. We shall return to stay overnight.

Proper pub food as it should be - superb! Cheese souffle was excellent. Very relaxed atmosphere here, you'd be very welcome with a pair of muddy boots! I'll be bringing a big group of family and friends up here next time. Thanks again King John!

We were looking for somewhere to get away from the stress of moving house. We found the King John Inn by chance and booked a four night stay. Very welcoming, very comfortable and the food is just out of this world. John the manager is a very nice chap as are all the staff. Very dog friendly. I would highly... More

Description
Situated in the scenic village of Tollard Royal in rural Wiltshire, The King John Inn is a Victorian and award-wining country inn offering beautiful accommodation, delicious food and a warm, friendly service.

Our Head Chef is an accomplished fisherman, bakes his own bread, makes his own cheese and still finds time to get up early and catch local game when in season so you can expect that every plate on the King John menu is as fresh as it can be and is expertly crafted with a passion for the local countryside. We are proud to have recently received 1 Rosette from the AA.

In summer, our terraced garden is the perfect place to dine alfresco while watching the chefs in action in their Victorian-inspired outdoor kitchen. In winter, relax near our roaring-log fires in our open plan pub or in the informal restaurant.

The bar provides an ever-changing selection of imported drafts and local beers as well as an extensive wine list.

Our eight en-suite bedrooms combine modern comfort with rustic elegance and feature luxurious linen, Nespresso machines, flat-screen TVs, Wi-Fi, direct dial phones and luxurious toiletries.

Salisbury and its cathedral are only a 30 minute drive away whilst the beautiful hillside town of Shaftesbury is only 20 minutes. The King John Inn also sits within a 5-minute walk of the historic Rushmore Park, an area of lawn and open woodland home to the Rushmore Golf Club.
