In 2011, Vito Tufano founded Il Vicolo Trattoria restaurant in Oak Park, Illinois, one of Chicago's leafy western suburbs that spawned Ernest Hemingway. Located at 116 North Oak Park Avenue, near Oak Park-River Forest High School, in the Hemingway District, it is an intimate, brick-walled...Italian ristorante with outdoor seating, an extensive wine list, full bar and a menu filled with classic dishes. Tufano specializes in traditional Neapolitan cuisine, from home-made pasta to pizza to fresh seafood. My wife and I started with minestrone, fresh mozzarella wrapped with prosciutto and served over arugula and drizzled with a balsamic glaze, a thinly sliced assortment of Italian meats, cheeses and olives served with tomato bruschetta and Caesar salad with romaine lettuce, tomatoes and croutons topped with shaved parmigiano cheese. For an entree, my wife chose Lake Superior whitefish fillet in a lemon caper white wine sauce and served with vegetables and roasted potatoes. I couldn't resist veal scaloppine al Saltimbocca, veal medallions sauteed in white wine, topped with prosciutto and mozzarella and served with mixed vegetables, roasted potatoes and home-made meatballs. For dessert, what else? If it's Italian, it has to be tiramisu. Tufano's version is among the best we've tasted over the years.More

Significant birthday for wife; guests were our two grown children and wife's siblings. Seating was prompt. Table locations and atmosphere just right (upbeat "buzz" in room, but quiet enough we could talk). When wife's siblings (not from local area) raved about the food, we had...a winner.More

We ordered here for pick up and told them of our gluten free needs. There were many options. We got a couple of delicious salads, salmon and a bottle of wine. The customer service was excellent. We are new to the area and will definitely...order again, maybe some gluten free pasta next time!More

We have eaten at Il Vicolo many times but have not left a review. It is our favorite restaurant in Oak Park or any where in the Chicago area for that matter. Never does a dinner go by without having a great conversation with Vito...the owner. The food is fabulous with my favorite being the 8 finger caveteli and my wife loves the grilled calamari and octopus. They are always willing to make changes and substitutions if you would like something different from the menu. Vito also has very reasonable wine deals with nice wine bottles for $20 or $25. I think it his way of assuring everyone has wine to compliment the food and experience. The service is always exceptional. We highly recommend trying this place!More

Sunday night dinner. 8pm. Quiet streets and cold temps. Stepped inside the nearly empty restaurant, thankful it was open until 10. A wave of warm air and enticing aromas greeted us at front door, in addition to a friendly staffer. Offered a table by the...window and a basket of warm bread. Our waitress was helpful, friendly and checked in enough to make sure we had all we needed without hovering. Wine pours were generous. Husband had pasta special which he loved and ate completely. I went with tried-and true from the menu and was not disappointed-perfect Caesar salad and a thin crust arugula and prosciutto pizza. We both had gelato with biscotti for dessert. All was wonderful. Would return and recommend!More

Our early Saturday evening to this Oak Park restaurant allowed us to grab a table before the place got busier. The wait staff was helpful in all regards. The suggested wine was perfect. The grilled calamari was superb. We chose the Sea Bass special - it...was terrific - tasty, perfectly prepared. The potato puff was splendid. The Sea Bass was moist and flaky. The capers, tomatoes and spinach were the perfect pairing for the sea bass.More

Parking on the street is limited. There is a parking garage directly behind the restaurant where parking is free for the first hour or so, and then it is $2 for the first 2 hours, I believe. You walk from the garage less... More

Not that I have ever noticed, pretty casual. Now that it is fall, you probably want to dress a bit warmer than in the summer
