This is a cash only place. The food was okay, but the service is worse than terrible. The hostess was sitting at the host stand eating a banana! We were seated and was handed a bottle of warm water. We asked for glasses with ice;...the were plastic. The restaurant was practically empty but it took forever for the server to take our order. No one checked once to see if we needed anything. We needed boxes to take our food home, but we had to practically yell for some service. We found our server seated at a table having a conversation with other diners! Buyer beware!More

This place used to be good but not anymore. Dirty, outdated, the food cold, dirty utensils and attitude. My husband and I decided to go for lunch on a saturday, when we arrived the lady at the entrance didn’t even greeted us and instead told...us it was buffet only and the price was $29.99 per person… we got seated on a dirty broken table, all plates where wet and dirty and also the utensils.. used to be amazing a couple of years ago.. I could noticed a party of 18 people arguing with the waiter about the bill but I am not sure why other than they where charged something. Anyways when we where done we asked for the check and we where told to go pay at the front.. the same lady that greeted us with how much it would cost us to eat there, she didn’t give me a receipt and she said the total is $79.99 I gave her the credit card and she was sliding the card when she asked me how much tip I wanted to leave and I responded 20%.. I gave her my signature on the small credit card reader and she told me I would received a copy of my check on my phone in a few minutes, later on my car I get a text with the receipt and I could see I was charged twice for the tip.. she never mentioned the tip was included and asked me how much I wanted to leave… They already charged me 20% without telling me and I left them another 20%. I called the place around 10 mins later and a guy answered I explained and he told me he will put the lady on the phone.. we where waiting more than 30mins and no one ever got back on the line, seems like they did it on purpose this people are scammers.. be aware!!More

This pains me to write because Reza's (both Oak Brook and the River North location now closed) is my family's favorite restaurant in Chicago. We have been visiting the Oak Brook location since it opened years ago, at least once every 1-2 months. Service has...always been goofy, sometimes pretty bad, but we love the food and have gotten to know one of the owners in that time so we are patient, and have just accepted it as sometimes acceptable to be a regular at a family owned business. But our visit on Fathers' Day this year was a disaster. For a long time they weren't doing the buffet which was fine for us because we usually go for the salmon and white fish off the menu. But it was buffet only and I've had some epic dinners at Reza's buffet over the years. And it was just awful. They did not bring out Persian bread (this used to be standard procedure) and we were left with ice cold bread that I think they picked up from the Jewel down the street. There was barely any white rice, and neither the bread nor rice was refilled while we were there. The chicken kabobs were fine, but the hummus was runny. We had to wait ten minutes, while we were already eating, for bottled water. And they brought out trays of pop. All of it was at room temperature. Do they not have an ice machine or water faucets? On to my wife. My wife, who is vegetarian, usually goes with the falafel on the buffet but they didn't have it, so she asked to manager (who we've dealt with for years and he was clearly having one of his bad days) and after much hemming and hawing he said he'd put some salmon on the grill for her. Of course it never came. Of course he kept saying it was on the way. But we were done eating by the time it came out, and he just put it in a to-go box. We won't go back to Oak Brook -- ever. Definitely will try the new location in Evanston and will start going to the Andersonville location. Just a shame all around...More

This review is for a recent experience we had for a banquet held there. My sis and SIL hosted a joint baptism/1st bday reception for their 2 kids on 6/25, and from the moment we walked in, what a disaster it was. Both hostesses were...loosely familiar with the restaurant venue (they've ordered takeout and eaten there many times), so booked sight unseen. The reception was for ~200 guests, and Reza's indicated they had an event space large enough to accommodate that size. The reception was slated to start at 12:30, as per the agreement from both hostesses and the restaurant, with the contract reflecting the same. Guests arrived at 12:30, while those of us that were part of the family stayed behind at the church to take pictures. When we arrived at the restaurant at 1:15, we came to find out that none of the guests had been served any appetizers or drinks, and the restaurant had refused to budge despite many guests complaining of hunger. This is after the contract and the phone conversations indicated that the start time would be 12:30pm. Furthermore, the event coordinator/owner failed to mention that the event space WAS BROKEN UP INTO TWO COMPLETELY SEPARATE ROOMS. So, essentially, 75% of the guests sat in one room, while the remaining 25% sat in a completely different room, separated from the main event. Not only did this make for a terrible party experience, but those of us that sat in the smaller room missed out on the entire party (kid's cake cutting, speeches, prayer, etc.). Don't you think that's an important detail to convey to anyone booking?? Insult to injury, the smaller of the 2 rooms had a broken thermostat (supposedly), making the room stiflingly hot, as if the heat was blasting. When asked what they could do to alleviate the issue, an apologetic look and a "I'm sorry" from one of the staff members was all we got. An hour into lunch, a few of us took matters in our own hands and started propping windows open to keep from profusely sweating. Now onto the service. Clearly the restaurant is suffering from a staff shortage, because for an event this size, we only had 2 formally dressed waiters, and then 2 men who were wearing baseball caps and sweats (kitchen staff perhaps?) that were running around trying to run the front desk, carryout, plus assist in both rooms. Why wouldn't you have more staff on hand for a banquet this size?? Onto the bathrooms. The men's bathroom is located right next to the hostess stand as you enter, and was directly adjacent to the larger banquet room. Every time the bathroom door swung open, what a God awful stench (it literally smelled like sewage) and those of us that kept walking by to socialize with the main room attendants wanted to die every time. The women's restroom? Just as bad! Located within the main banquet area itself, adjacent to the bar, it's a tiny 3 stall facility, with 1 of the 3 stalls being out of order. What's worse, it was taped shut saying out of service, with the toilet sounding like it was going to overflow at any moment (I visited 3 different times with my toddler, and it kept gurgling every 2 mins or so). Why wouldn't you have this fixed before a large event??? My 3yr old almost pissed herself twice waiting for one of the two stalls in the entire restaurant to open up. WTF??? Onto the rude staff, in particular, the bartender and the hostess (who I was later informed is possibly the owner??). The bar was only in the main area, so those of us that were seated in the other smaller room had to keep going to the main room to get served - fine. But when I asked for an empty glass to pour some water into (side note, they only provided bottled water on self serve carts and not server poured water into individual glasses, which is super weird for a banquet/restaurant), I was told I couldn't have one because I wasn't purchasing a drink from the cash bar. What in the real f??? I just about lost it, but then another guest that had an open tab said his card was on file, and that's the only reason the bartender handed me an EMPTY GLASS. Is this for real?? Final straw - since they were so late in brining out the actual entrée (kebabs, rice and such), most people had filled up on the apps and there was a ton of leftover food - like, literal platters full. When I asked if we could have to go containers (mind you, it's my sister's event, she'd never just let food be wasted that way), I was told by the hostess/owner that they couldn't provide containers, as the hosts didn't indicate it was ok. WHAT?? So I had to drag my SIL away from the party to voice what I had already told the owner-GIVE US THE DAMN BOXES. She was rude, unapologetic, and we collectively will never, ever visit Reza's again - takeout or otherwise. I'd rate this place a -10 if I could!More

Arrived on a rainy Friday night. Place was about a quarter full. The staff were dressed in whatever they had in their closets including one fellow with a baseball cap on backwards. Very professional! The man in charge of the bar (he clearly is not...a bartender) was largely incompetent. Food, served in large quantities was mediocre at best. Meats (chicken) were either overcooked or stringy (lamb).More

Love the food here (if you get what you ordered) which is why I’m giving it 2 stars. The service is hands down the worst. We have dined at the Andersonville location many times and have been here twice. Both times the service has been...abysmal and I was hoping the first was a fluke. We went on a Sunday evening at 5:30 pm which was not a busy time. We stood at the hostess area which had two staff talking to each other, but left us ignored for about 5 minutes. When the woman with short hair finally acknowledged us, she was clearly annoyed that we there. She seated us, threw some menus on the table and walked away. When seated, there were about 5 tables of people with 3 servers. While not busy, we sat there for almost 30 minutes before being approached by a server. We ordered hummus, lentil soup and two sultanis with dill rice. After another 30 minutes our server brought one piece of bread and a plate of feta, radishes and parsley. We asked for water but it was another 30 minutes before we got that. Our food arrived, but he never brought the soup or hummus and he gave us white rice instead of dill. Again, our server only had one other table at the time. I would’ve complained but I knew it’d take another hour before he gave us what we actually ordered. I did see another server, an elderly man close to 80 years old with a long white ponytail who seemed very attentive to his tables. My recommendation is that if you go there despite these horrible reviews, sit in his section. Also, the bathrooms are so incredibly filthy it makes you wonder what the condition of the kitchen is like.More

The food was ok, but the service was very disappointing and unfriendly. Had to also wait much more than usual time to get the bill and get out of there. I have never given less than 20% tip and continue to receive bad service. Unfortunat...ely, my wife likes the food otherwise i would never step in this restaurant.More

Years ago I used to eat at Rezas near downtown Chicago. Food was always fresh and delicious. I was super excited to try the restaurant in Oakbrook. Not sure what happened but this is not anything like the restaurant I remembered. We were there on...Sunday so all they had was the buffet. We decided to give it a try. Big mistake. None of the food was labeled so you had to guess at what you were eating, several of the chafing dishes had missing handles, plates did not look clean and worst of all the food was barely warm. Restrooms had not been cleaned from the night before and at least one stall was missing toilet paper. Once they seat you, you will never see a human again. Dirty dishes weren’t bussed, and nobody refilled our water. I am usually a generous tipper but did not see our waiter until we went to leave. So...no service no tip. This restaurant is on the first floor and their windows were dirty. Whoever manages this place quit giving a darn years ago. It is a shame cause they really used to be a star in Chicago. I am surprised the health department lets them stay open.More

Went to Reza's in Oakbrook for my daughter-in-laws birthday. We checked out their web site and found out they had a Saturday buffet. They touted Mediterranean foods and an array of regular breakfast foods including shrimp and a glass of champagne. They said the Sunday...buffet was so popular they were repeating it on Saturdays. We'll, we arrived with my Son, daughter-in-law and two grandchildren. When asked for our drinks, we said we would like their champagne. They said that was no longer option and they were sorry their web site had not been updated. We asked for milk for the children, oh they don't serve milk. We want to the buffet stations, Mediterranean food was blah and no regular breakfast foods or shrimp. We were told they were sorry but their web site had not been updated. I wanted to leave immediately, unfortunately my daughter-in-law is way too sweet and didn't want to offend them. Anyway, the kids had about two bites of something. My husband the same as the kids and I opted for some salad. My Son and Daughter-in-law ate a little, but they weren't impressed by any of the items. Such a waste of money and all because of their false advertising. If you are smart you will steer clear of this restaurantMore

Simple touches like grilling vegetables to a perfect tender crisp or homemade flatbread make this a favorite repeat spot. The vegetarian platter is an economical way to sample 5 selections at a time. Hummus is a common item, but nicely done. Shami is falafel with...an exquisite pomegranate sauce. Alternatively, the weekday brunch includes flavorful beef, lamb and chicken, grilled vegetables, lentil soup, herbed rice and simple desserts. Sunday brunch is the full spread including fish selections. Compatible drinks include wine and coffee (American or Turkish style.) Prices are moderate and service is attentive. Atmosphere is comfortable, quiet and sometimes with appropriate Middle Eastern background music.More
