We go Mykonos Greek Restaurant every few months. It is a great place to go with the family. They can easily seat larger parties often without a wait. They are masters at all types of Greek specialties. Our favourites are the grilled octopus. It's always flavourful and oh so tender. Thier gyros are the best. I have not ever had... More

This is a very good Greek restaurant - comparable to most in Greektown. If one is in the far northern suburbs of Chicago, this should be on the list to 'to-do's for dining. If you enjoy lamb, moussaka, saganaki or any of the many delicious treats of Greek cuisine, you will feel right at home inside or outside Mykonos.

This casual place has it all. If greek food is your favor, then this restaurant is a good choice . A very large menu but, try the dolmades, it's a winner. Good selection of wine will top you're evening. Enjoy. OP-AH.

We saw the sign and turned around but were expecting just another marginal Greek restaurant with Gyros on the menu. We were surprised to see a full, and I mean full, wine list with favorite wine, Mavrodaphne, on list. Had a Greek Salad as a appetizer and it was great. Love Feta Cheese. I had a organic chicken meal and... More

Being senior citizens with reduced appetites, the wife and I typically order one entree and one appetizer for the two of us. I ordered the Charcoal Octopus appetizer for $14.75, which was probably the most expensive appetizer on the menu. The wife ordered the Traditional Combination Plate for $15.50. The food was great. When ordering, the waiter asked if we... More

We have been going to Mykonos for over 30 years. Sometimes in the summer, dinner is just appetizers, bread, and wine in their garden. My favorite meal is braised lamb in artichoke lemon sauce.

We used to come here a few times a month and always loved the food, folks at atmosphere. Visiting again last night after 10 years we found it better than ever with great new menu additions. Will look for ways to get back to one of the most authentic Greek food experiences outside of Athens! -- oops I mean Mykonos!

WE have been going to Mykonos Restaurant for years. We think its the best Greek food in the Chicago area, so much so, that all of our Greek relatives who come to visit make it their first dinner stop during their stay. Mykonos has the best flavors for their avgolemono soup, taramasalata, octopus salads, shish kabobs, and other traditional Greek... More

Description
Established in 1981, Mykonos Greek Restaurant has grown to become a leader in traditional Greek Cuisine. Owner Dimitrios "Jimmy" Merageas was born in Sparta, Greece. Growing up and watching his grandmother and mother cook delicious authentic Greek food in their tiny little taverna, Jimmy was always eager to help. But, school was a priority and in 1972, Jimmy packed up his bags and moved to Chicago, Illinois, to get an American education. His first few years in the United States were rough. He went to school during the day and worked hard in various Greektown restaurants in the evenings to attain the American dream. At that point he realized that his passion was to explore, discover, and create the best Greek cuisine ever. He went back to Greece and with much perseverance he had the unique opportunity to assist and learn from some of the greatest chefs of Athens. He brought back all his newly acquired knowledge to the United States, and luckily a break came through. He stumbled upon a small, local ethnic restaurant in Niles, Illinois, and quickly became the head chef. After a short time later, the restaurant was up for sale. He jumped at the opportunity and bought the place. He immediately changed the name and tweaked the cuisine to make it more traditional. Mykonos Greek Restaurant first opened its doors in October 1981. Jimmy decided to call his restaurant Mykonos after the beautiful island of Mykonos in Greece, which was one of his favorite places to visit as a child. Through the years, the restaurant and the menu have expanded. In 1983, Jimmy had an ingenious idea of bringing the outdoor atmosphere of the Greek isles to the Chicagoland area. He designed and built one of the first outdoor eating areas in the state of Illinois. The concept stuck and people loved it! Jimmy worked harder and harder to make his restaurant gain a world-renowned status in Greek cuisine and in the Greek restaurant community. In 1987, Jimmy met the love of his life and decided to start a family. His wife, Athena, and all three of their children, Peter, Renee, and Madeline, are very enthusiastic about Mykonos. They have helped evolve recipes to include organic meats and vegetables and also to offer gluten-free, vegetarian and vegan foods without losing traditional flavors. After visiting Greece in 2010, Jimmy and his family brought yet another idea back to Niles, a retractable roof for the beautiful outdoor dining area. One of the first of its kind, the retractable roof is a huge success. Jimmy, his wife, and the rest of the Merageas family continue to work their hardest to maintain a cutting edge, yet, traditional atmosphere at Mykonos Greek Restaurant. Only time will tell what the Merageas family has in store next!
