We had a lovely dinner at Marco's. The food was delicious, the menu casual and varied, the prices were very moderate. The wait staff were charming, friendly and efficient. The décor is very casual. This is a small restaurant. We went at 5pm, which is...unusual for us. The clientele was attractive and the restaurant was quite full for such an unusual time. The location is on the main street in Highwood, which is a modest enclave with lots of restaurants between the wealthy and glamorous Lake Forest, IL and the wealthy and glamorous Highland park, IL. We recommend Marco'sMore
If you want to taste a burger that melts in your mouth Go to Marco's Northside Grill.
The soups and salads are also excellent.
Stop in at Marco's Northside Grill and I promise you will love it.
Best Burger on the Northshore!
My wife was in Lake Forest and so we decided to meet up in Highwood, the restaurant haven of the North Shore. We decided to do burgers. We met up in this cozy bar/restaurant and were quickly greeted on a very cold night by Marco...himself. We were quickly settled at a table and greeted by a server. The atmosphere was very warm and friendly, kind of a North Shore 'Cheers.' The food was delicious, the drinks were wonderful, the atmosphere perfect. We found out that Marco was trained by the Gibson's people, it was clear in the way everything was handled. I cannot wait to go back.More
For a basic burger grill, they've got a surprisingly tasty veggie (black bean) burger! It's thick and hearty, with black beans and corn in it, served in a toasty bun. It's cooked so it's crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. It's a...real menu item, not just a token vegetarian offering so meat-eaters don't have to feel bad about bringing their veggie friends here.
My one wish is that one of the "premium" add-ons (avocado, or grilled onion, or grilled mushrooms) was included with the veggie burger (which is surprisingly the same price as the beef burger). But I'm not really one to complain when the Diet Coke is freely flowing!More
Cute little restaurant with seating outside or in. It shares a patio & restrooms with restaurant next door. Burgers are a specialty as well as fish fry on Fridays. Something for everyone. Open for lunch & dinner. Friendly waitstaff & service.
Love that you can...hang your purse on the wall hanger.More
Marco's might have the best burgers in the Highland Park-Northbrook-Highwood area. There are several other great places, but the burger here is out of this world. Yes, the place is small. Yes, the bathroom is in the Toad Stool. Yes, the menu is limited. First,...it's a burger place. You aren't coming here for sea bass. Did Marco say hi, no, but I'm sure he will the next time. Our waitress was super nice and good. They were a bit slow due to Pumpkin Fest, but I won't hold that against them. If you want a fantastic burger, come here. You won't be disappointed.More
The waitress told us that the black bean burger was from MorningStar Farms, so I opted for the grown-up toasted cheese sandwich. My companion ordered the house burger.
They were served on paper-covered 10" X 13" metal trays, and came with a pickle spear, a...small container of okay cole slaw, and a huge pile of fries made JUST the way I like them -- thin, crispy, salty. In fact, my rating would've been lower without those fabulous fries.
The service was ho-hum, and Marco didn't even notice we were there -- although he was friendly enough to others. I mention this only because this is touted as a very friendly "Cheers" kinda place.
The washrooms are in the pub next door. Go through the connecting door -- ladies turn left and gents turn right.
It's a small place with 10 four-person tables that can be combined for larger groups, and some outdoor tables in front.
There's a small four-stool bar at the far end.
There are condiments on the tables -- Heinz ketchup, French's yellow mustard, Frank's Red Hot Pepper Sauce (a cayenne sauce from the '20s that has inspired its own cookbook), salt, and pepper. The house-made sauces are BBQ, bourbon (sweet), Cajun, teriyaki, buffalo, and ranch.
There's street parking and parking lots nearby.More
