Several years ago, Blue Island High School's class of 1958, of which my wife and I are devoted members, held a reunion of classmates living in the south suburbs at Francesca's Fortunato in Frankfort. It was a rousing success. Recalling that experience, my wife and...I recently revisited the Italian restaurant. Another rousing success. Located at 40 Kansas Street, it is open from 11:30 to 9 Monday through Thursday, 11:30 to 10 on Friday and Saturday and 11:30 to 8 on Sunday. Founded in 1991 by restauranteur Scott Harris, Francesca's Restaurant Group has grown from a small Italian eatery on North Clark Street in Chicago to a restaurant group of six concepts and 25 locations in two states. There are 10 locations in the Chicago area. Francesca's is a rousing success because it offers a delicious cuisine inspired by Rome and surrounding areas of Tuscany, Umbria and Lazio. We started with bruschetta with garlic toast, tomatoes basil and fresh mozzarella and Caesar salad with roasted peppers, garlic croutons and shaved parmesan. For an entree, my wife chose veal medallions with crispy pancetta, eggplant, zucchini and roasted potatoes finished with a veal glace and sauteed spinach. I opted for roasted salmon with jumbo shrimp, green beans, roasted plum tomatoes and lobster cream sauce. For dessert, we shared profiteroles with pistachio gelato and chocolate sauce and a Sloppy Sundae with Italian ice cream, vanilla bean gelato, chocolate sauce, candied pecans, whipped cream and a cherry.More
