I have been going to this restaurant for years and always found the food way beyond my expectations. Their tasting menus are to die for. This is no ordinary Italian restaurant. They no longer offer in person dining it is all pick up or delivery....When covid hit, they pivoted and turned the restaurant into a gourmet food and wine shop filled with all kinds of delicious homemade goodies. There are soups, sauces, cheeses, meat, sausages, wine, olives, gelato, sorbetto, pasta, pizza, home made bread, cookies and more. Just about anything you can find at Eataly you can find here and you will be supporting a local vendor. We stopped there today and picked up a full sheet seafood frutti di mare pizza topped with calamari, shrimp, mussels, Manila clam and octopus - it was soo good. They also had: sausage pizza with house made sausage and an amazing Sicilian pizza, sfincione. It is made with a special crust, onion-anchovy and oregano marmalade (Don't be afraid of the anchovy! ) and four special cheeses, then topped with crispy bread crumbs. Although we live close by, for some reason we rarely go to Gaetano's. After last night's Chef Choice tasting menu, that will likely change. We were exposed to a large variety of the standard items and some specials from the menu, and were delighted by...the quality and taste. The Chef's Choice is described on the menu as a "4-course" tasting menu but last night we were served 6 courses -- 5 savory courses plus a dessert. The 5 savory courses consisted of 3 appetizer/antipasti courses, a pasta course, and a secondi. For the 2 of us, each savory course consisted of 2 items from the menu served family style. As is typical of tasting menus, some of the most pleasing dishes were items that we never would have ordered if we'd been choosing on our own, including: the dates stuffed with chorizo and a special shrimp & strawberry risotto, which was fabulously creamy. Other standouts included the beet carpaccio salad and a special antipasto of tuna tartarre served over quinoa, topped with shrimp. Dessert consisted of a sampler of 4 items -- of which, the tiramissu and bread pudding with dark chocolate sauce were the highlights. We also opted for the Reserve Wine Pairing. I believe that we received 7 glasses apiece - one each with each of the 5 savory and dessert courses, plus a glass of prosecco while we waited for the first course. Service was close to impeccable. Fresh silverware and plates with every course. Water refilled before we had a chance to even notice that it was getting low. Servers were all welcoming and warm. This was not a budget meal but it really was a good value for what was offered.More
