Even when it started out as a modest restaurant called Bombay Grill, this place served up more authentic Indian food than most places in the Chicago area including Ave and Evanston. It was good to return to it after several years and find its somewhat...enlarged but compact menu, and to eat Indian food that even Mumbaikars would not fault. The non-vegetarian thali was tasty and plentiful, and the a la carte makhani chicken, saag paneer, and samosas what they should be. The service was friendly and quick, and the naans soft and fluffy. The thing that does need improving is the music, which was repetitive and monotonous and far from what one would call good Indian music. There is plenty of good Indian music out there, and good selections which the restaurant could perhaps consider investing in...More

Took my daughter to this restaurant that we always passed by on walks to nearby Starbucks and the new Sweet fudge shop. The waiter was very helpful and gave us hot thin bread with two sauces just as we arrived. The garlic naan and the...samosa chaat with chunks of onion, tomatoes and basically smashed fried dough was outstanding. Daughter had tandoori chicken curry mild and I had lamb kabob curry in four out of five heat level. It was a good consistent spice heat, but not uncomfortable. It is byob place so come prepared. Waiter was pleasant, helpful and knew the menu. I would go back again.More

I was taking a business trip with an Indian-born coworker who is also a vegetarian. He remained flexible throughout our restaurant choices over a couple of days we shared a rental car. One evening I asked him to suggest an Indian place. He's been in...the USA for 20 years but figured he would know what to order and where to go. He suggested this place that was a bit of a drive from where we were staying. It was well worth it. Regarding the heat of authentic-made Indian foods, I am a fan of Thai food. I would suggest that medium hot in Indian is basically equal to Medium hot Thai, although the curry, spices and herbs differ. I ordered a lamb dish, served with a tomato and onion curry sauce with rice. Tasty stuff! I thought the lamb might be a bit more tender, but the taste was complex and flavorful. This is a very small place but it did not seem crowded. Service was pretty quick. The portion size was adequate but not huge as many other American restaurants serve. I ate it all but did not leave hungry. My coworker was able to order any number of entrees and appetizers that were vegetarian. As an Indian-born person he said he thought the food was very good too.More

Ordered the chicken tikka masala, and it was rather bland compared to other restaurants I'd been at. The naan was excellent, however I was expecting a bit more spice and flavor. Dining area is rather small. Probably best for take-out since it's a college town.

Today there are a plenty of dining options in US serving Indian cuisine. Mumbai Indian Grill stands out among all of them for great quality food and superb ambiance. Selecting the right spice level will determine whether it is right for your taste, since Indian...foods tend to be over spiced and hot.More

I go here when my friends or relatives visit who enjoy a lingering mouth heat throughout the meal, and don't wish to get overly "stuffed." Food is prepared in a most authentic style. Try it.

With so many restaurants so close to each other it is often difficult to recall which was which, Mumbai Indian Grill is not one to forget easily. Ok, I'm a total food snob. Not in terms of ambiance nor white linen tablecloths, but in food,...There are many Indian restaurants in Evanston, and many good ones. In my opinion this place gives you the best bang for your buck (even if they charge more....please don't!!!). The food is without a doubt authentic and the wait staff are very helpful if you want to go outside your comfort zone (as I did) and order something you normally wouldn't get (for whatever neurotic fears you have; mine is a dish that they say is "somewhat spicy" and my tongue says "WRONG"!!!! They truly listen what you want and they aim to please rather successfully I should add,More

I went to Mumbai Indian Grill for fathers day, and the place was almost completely empty. The food was great and so was the atmosphere. I would strongly recommend this restaurant.

This was by far the best Indian food. Staff was courteous and menu selection is very good, chicken Tikka Masada was to die for delicious. Highly recommended.

We were disappointed with the food. All the dishes appeared to taste similar. We ordered chicken tikka which was tough and not well-spiced.
