I just don't know how we missed it, but we did ... my bad. But I look forward to making up for the oversight. Next time: the Polpo alla Cassarola! Seriously, this place is really, really good.

The first thing that you notice about Giacomo's Ristorante in northwest suburban Des Plaines is that it is a family friendly, family oriented that has been satisfying loyal patrons since 1998. The second thing that you notice is that Sicilian-born owner/chef Giacomo Zito, his wife/hostess...Anna Maria and daughter Amanda run a very efficient family-owned business, a cozy Old World eatery that serves Southern Italian fare and pastas with a full bar. The menu includes a wonderful assortment of chicken, fish, beef, sausage, steak, pasta, veal, seafood and vegetables. Located at 740 North Wolf Road, at Central and Wolf, is is open from 4 to 8:30 Tuesday through Sunday. If you crave Italian food--my wife is half-Italian with an Italian grandmother who ruled her kitchen--this is the place. My wife and I started with Antipasto Italiano for two, a delicious assortment of salami, prosciutto, cappicola, imported Italian cheese, olives, red roasted peppers and house-made giardiniera. I also had a bowl of minestrone and we shared a Caesar salad with romaine lettuce, croutons, romano cheese and Caesar dressing topped with grilled chicken and shrimp. We love veal--we have veal scallopine every Sunday at home--so when we find it on menus, we rarely can pass it up. My wife chose veal parmigiana, lightly breaded veal baked with mozzarella cheese and marinara sauce, while I opted for veal gorgonzola, veal medallions sauteed in a creamy garlic sauce with mushrooms and freshly crumbled blue cheese. It is difficult to find good veal today because grocers and butchers claim it is too expensive and buyers are few and far between. We are among the few. And Giacomo's veal dishes were exceptional. For dessert, we shared the house's specialty, Mount Etna flaming lava cake, rich chocolate cake with a warm fudge center topped with raspberry and chocolate drizzle and whipped cream with vanilla ice cream. One reviewer said "there is Italian food and then there is Giacomo's Italian food." Right on the button.More

We have been going here for years. Our son is known as 'Soup Boy'. He loves their minestrone. It is a great family owned and operated establishment cranking out show stopping dishes. They are beyond friendly and accommodating. Their sauce is fabulous, they grow their...own ingredients to make it. There is Italian food and then there is 'Giacomo's 'Italian food. Keep up the great work!More

We have been coming to this place for years. We typically avoid food pick-up in general as we enjoy the restaurant experience, and we were particularly skeptical about food pick-up during this time of social distancing -- but thought we would give Giacomo's a try....I'm sorry we waited until the 4th week of the quarantine to try it. FANTASTIC!! The baccala, which is always my favorite, was hot, flaky, and had just the right amount of coating and seasoning. The eggplant parmigiana - which I was told is always gluten free - was delicious. My wife has celiac, so we are always sensitive to "GF offerings." The dish was not a bit oily and was particularly flavorful with the "picky-pack" sauce. [Brought back memories of my mother's eggplant I had growing up in NJ]. Salad was fresh, and the minestrone was thick and full of veggies. I highly recommend Giacomo's during this quarantine time or when we are back experiencing the restaurant scene. We'll be ordering again soon!More

I work a few blocks from Giacomo's so I order carry out often. I appreciate that they don't overcook their pasta. Their sauces are good. They offer multiple lunch specials which are a good deal. Their staff is very friendly.

Went here for a free Financial seminar so didn't get to pick the food served. Place is an older Italian restaurant. Staff was friendly and food was OK. We had bread, soup, lemon chicken, mixed veges and pasta with vodka sauce. All needed more flavor....Since we were in a group not sure if the other food is better. Not sure if I would return.More

I went last night with a group of friends for dinner I ordered Baccala Siciliano. It was tasty and served on top of Linguine. I couldn’t help thinking that it was pricey. Even the wines seemed expensive. The service was great and the setting was...relaxed. There are not that many tables.More

First thing you pick up on is that this place has a lot of regulars. The interaction between staff and patrons is like your old corner neighborhood cafe, if you grew up in a city. The decor is pleasant, lighting is soft but not dark,...background noise not an issue. Staff quick to present the menu, talk over specials, and take drinks order. We thought it took a bit of time for the apps to appear, but, once we were done with them, the main courses were there in an instant. The chef is known for homemade pasta and scratch sauces and I cannot say anything negative whatsoever. Most of all, for a place that seemingly is a red sauce joint with class, no dishes were drowned in sauce. The portions are generous. Pricing is reasonable for the suburbs. Wine list is priced fairly and cocktails are not overpriced. The staff was friendly and on the ball. I can recommend it for a last-minute pick or an occasion, but, weekends it fills up and no one rushes the patrons to up and boogie to open a table. I think the ownership is keeping a good eye on the establishment and doing a commendable job.More

First let me say our server was very nice and tried her best. My clam chowder was the consistency of cold super thick wallpaper past. The server said "yes it does really not look good" I'll tell the chef. My spinach was served almost cold...and the Picky Pack pasta sauce was tasteless. With all the other fabulous Italian restaurants in the ares we will not be going back. We were very disappointedMore

We were interested in trying someplace new for us so made the drive here. It’s a bit tricky to access and parking is somewhat limited. Our thought was to have two entrees but an appetizer special was so similar to my planned entree that I...ordered that instead of dinner. Between two of us, we shared an appetizer, an entree, and a dessert. The appetizer was grilled octopus, calamari, and shrimp. A disappointment for starters- most were tough, chewy, rubbery. The fish special of Parmesan crusted brassa was excellent. Perfectly done and delicious. Last, for dessert we had the chocolate lava cake. It seemed over baked so it was more like a small bundt cake with warm fudge sauce in the middle. A raspberry syrup drizzled over the top detracted from the chocolate flavor. As a chocoholic, I really missed that chocolate taste. Our server was great but the food quality and pricing would make us unlikely to return.More

Great, authentic Italian food. This family run eatery is quaint and the food is fantastic. We’ve been going here for 15 years. The staff is consistent and friendly. Definitely worth a visit. So much good food here. Pork shank last night was excellent.
