I write this review from the perspective of a pandemic. Thinking of silver linings, I must include my dinner at Monteverde. This was one of my last dinners out before an age of masks and gloves. How fortunate I am to have this lasting memory. First, the reservation was procured by my son who lives in Chicago. He set his alarm for midnight to snatch a reservation a month later. He was lucky to get an 8:45 slot for 4. We thought we could go early but arrived to find a fully packed wall-wall people bar and waiting area, and alas could not be seated earlier. It was very difficult to get a drink at the bar. We finally got the attention of a floor server. We were seated right on time. The scene was loud with tables closely placed. So these were the drawbacks of our experience at this very popular spot. I guess to be expected. But now for the good part..the food. Wow! It was all worth it. We tried several dishes-endive salad, roasted beet ravioli (my fave of the night), cacio whey pepe, gnoccheti and a giant plate of meat that they call ragu all napolenta. I will say that every dish was perfectly prepared. The wine list was well paired with the foods. We had a $58 bottle of Vermentino, a $78 Nebbiolo, and a $70 Chianti Classico. Fantastic wine list! This was a meal to remember and a very nice birthday treat from my son. I wish Monteverde the best and hope they survive the pandemic and are open for dining in soon.

Enjoyed a great dinner tonight after wanting to come here for so long because of chef Sarah competing on Top chef. Love the ambiance, the excellent service from Jamie, delicious food, all of it! The 4 stars instead pf 5 is bc some dishes were too salty and some of the portions were too small and pricey for that tiny amount of pasta. Jamie had the bartender make me a special cocktail with St Germain that was bright and delicious! Our Food: Crostino was wonderful but $6 for just 1 (should charge more and give a few in an order), Arancini was way too salty, Apple endive kale salad was tasty and bright, 2 of us got the Wok fried Frutti di Mar & loved it, the Arriabatta was too salty, Spaghetti pomodoro was tasty but just a tiny portion, dessert-wise the honey tart was yummy, blood orange sorbet fantastic but the white cookie way too sweet and merengue-y, and the almond cookie was crumbly and so yummy. Had wanted to try the bone in rib eye, but not that hungry today so save it for another time....

This is a great restaurant for almost any time or occasion. I went there as a couple and we had a very good time. Sharing is recommended not because the orders are large but because everything is worth trying and they will serve it as it comes out of the kitchen. We had an artichoke crostino (my favorite dish) then octopus in in omido (great citric taste) and then gnochetti con pesto and it was totally worth it. We accompanied it with a Saba soda

This is tour typical pasta and red gravy place. We really enjoyed our experience even more because our waiter Dave was patient with us, as he had to explain many of the dishes. Most are shared plates, so, beware...your check can get away from you (if you care), we didnt care, as we ordered virtually 70% of the small plates (it was a birthday celebration). Wine list was large, maybe a tad pricey. But you are able to order by the glass. All in all, a great experience. Worth coming back to. My rating of 4 is only because I never give a five!

From the time we walked in with a smiling host staff, until we had been served with dessert, Monteverde showed why it is one of the toughest reservations to get in Chicago. What a meal, all orchestrated by a world class server: Brett. We worked through small plates and cocktails before taking Brett's recommendation on the ribeye. "With so many steakhouses in Chicago, we do not get the press on our steak as we should" Oh Brett, how right you were. My wife and I shared it for our entree and it was spectacular. And save room for dessert. The chocolate dipped forgotten cookie and butterscotch budino alone would bring me back.

I first heard about Monteverde while watching an episode of the netflix series "You better feed Phil", and everything seemed excellent, so, I put it in my to do list while in Chicago. It took awhile to get my reservation confirmed but there we went, family and a friend, in total five of us. The receptionist was warm and friendly and got us seated right at the time of our reservation. Our first order was an appetizer consisting of Tigele (a better and much tastier version of an english muffin, without the nooks and crannies), san daniele prosciutto, burrata, prosciutto butter and cantaloupe. The first bite was incredible... that appetizer did not last more than a couple minutes. We devoured it. The always polite and attentive waiters refilled our drinks and brought out more appetizers. We had arancini (to die for) and Wagyu beef skewers, that melted in your mouth. We decided not to go for any main dish, and continue with appetizers, we had the melanzane (eggplant) that was cooked perfectly. and the porkbelly pampanella, which was a bit spicy, but very good. We then went for dessert. I had a lemon-mascarpone ice cream, which left me wanting more. My daughter had a Sundae which she shared with a friend, and they both were raving about it. The service, again, was impeccable. I will return to Monteverde on my next trip to Chicago.

We dined-in for the first time post-pandemic at Monteverde and we found the service to be stellar, the food delectable, the ambience warm and energetic. We've visited most of our favorite restaurants in person since being vaccinated and Monteverde stands head and shoulders above the rest in having maintained its quality and service with grace. To everyone on the Monteverde team, thank you for your incredible tenacity and resilience!

This is a Top Class restaurant that serves authentic tasty & delightful Italian in a relaxed environment perfect for large groups of friends & family. Our family enjoyed ( & Shared) the Bolognese, the Gnocchetti con Pesto, the Potato filled Ravioli and the Spaghetti al Pomodora. All our family foodies & critics were pleased & satisfied. Just one suggestion: it is noisy; averaging 90 dB, which can interfere with conversation.

I am extremely perplexed by Travail7's review. We have visited Italy many times and eaten at some of the best restaurants in Italy, France, Greece, Portugal, the USA, etc.. What Monteverdi accomplishes that none other have is to provide excellent food at a decent (albeit not cheap) price, with excellent service and a total lack of pretension. They have a reasonable and approachable wine menu too, which is odd in America. What we saw that perhaps few see was the changing of shifts, which allowed us to observe the staff being fed well and with the exact food we just ate - which they devoured lovingly. The owner and chef (who did not introduce herself and who I did not recognize but my husband did) personally delivered one of our pasta dishes and subtly sought our feedback on one of the seasonal specialty small plates which was totally and honestly out of this world. Our server Sawyer was a star and knew every dish on the menu by heart and with passion. For those of you with the money and time to enjoy great food out in Chicago, one thing you learn is that if the staff knows the food and authentically raves about it, it must be good. Better yet if they are treated well, it is a direct reflection on the entire experience, and in those instances the staff is the single best gauge of which dishes are exceptional. Last comment - the ability to sit at the bar and watch the hand rolling and cutting of pasta is a wonderful and unique touch. I can count this as one of the five best meals of my life for so many reasons. Back again - absolutely, and with great anticipation. Thank you Monteverdi.

My first comment will be about the spritz - four different types - we had a lambrusco spritz and it was refreshing and delicious. I recommend that you follow the server's recommendation and share the different pasta entries. There is a nice variety and it is nice to try them all or most of them. The service was excellent, the decor was very well done and overall a great experience. Since we were just visiting Chicago, unfortunately we may never get the chance to try this superb restaurant again.

This is a good restaurant, but I expected more. I do not like the layout of the restaurant. It felt like other diners' conversations intruded upon ours. The special cocktail of the night was the margarita. I did not like the flavor. My second cocktail was tasty. My wife enjoyed her wine. The crudo needed more acid and less oil. The flavor did not pop like I expected it. I tried the Wok-Fired Arrabbiatta which had good flavor, but felt the pasta was a bit overcooked. The Cacio Whey Pepe stood up to any in Rome. I expected a high-caliber of server also. Don't get me wrong. If you are looking for a nice dinner, this place will deliver. I had too high of expectations going in.

We saw this restaurant on Netflix’s “Somebody Feed Phil”. It was tricky to get a reservation as they use Resy and the only way you’re notified of an open table is by email. By the time you open the email the table is gone. Then all of a sudden there were several tables open in their tent. The tent was nice and warm and the service was excellent. The Ragu dish was enormous and we were only able to eat half. It was delicious and remained hot the entire time. We couldn’t event take it with us because our hotel did not have a microwave to reheat. I had an Aperitivo Spritzer, delicious. We were too full for dessert. This restaurant was just 3-4 blocks from the Green line, very convenient.

Some of the best Italian food I’ve had. We went for lunch and had the egg yolk raviolo which we watch them hand make from our seats at the bar. This dish was one of the best and uniques dishes I have ever had. It is a large raviolo stuffed with a spinach ricotta and an egg yolk. It’s cooked then served with prosciutto, crispy sage and hazelnuts. It was savory and a tad sweet from the balsamic. They best mix of flavors . We also had the meatball which was the best meatball I’ve ever had. It was delicate and flavorful, not too heavy . We also had the Caesar salad and cacio Pepe and tiramisu. All outstanding !

Since this is one the top rated restaurants in Chicago, I had to take my mom there when she was visiting from out of town. Firstly, I would not bank on walk-ins. I called right when they opened to inquire and they said they always take walk-ins and they’ll get us seated and not to worry etc. We arrive at 5:30pm on a Wednesday… and they couldn’t seat us until 8? …very strange. Food, overall was excellent. Loved allll of the small bites and apps we got. Pasta was SO good - beware of smaller portions. Not sure if I would return. There are better italian restaurants in Chicago most definitely. You come here for the good vibes, and good food…but if you want an authentic Italian meal I would look elsewhere.

I personally think this is the restaurant you should not miss in Chicago if you love Italian food. Their Burrata e Ham is one dish I will never forget. Warm tigelle bread layered with prosciutto butter, fig jam, burrata, prosciutto and arugula is the perfect mix of the creamy, salty and sweet. We wanted something to go with the crispy fall weather so we also ordered their Ragu alla Napoletana. Too much for a couple but so delicious. The osso bucco was melt off the bone, the fusilli was fresh and the perfect al dente and the sausage and meatballs are homemade and hearty good.
