Stopped in for lunch on a cold December day, it was very busy but we had booked (recommended) and we got seated with no problems. Seasonal cocktails were good, the Irish breakfast is recommended if you like lots of meat (homemade sausages), the lobster roll was also good. Decent portion sizes. The chocolate hazelnut tart which we shared was a highlight.

Located across Michigan Avenue from the Art Institute of Chicago and Millennium Park, this deceptively large restaurant is a delightful place for a relaxing lunch with friends. The menu is not extensive but everything was delicious and portions are large. The noise level is conversation friendly and the seating is not tight. Cocktails are $15 and draft beers $9. Most sandwiches are $15-20 and come with outstanding French fries.

Yesterday I had what I consider one of the greatest dining experiences EVER on Michigan Avenue!!! The ambience was incredible with heated outdoor seating. The candle lighting was subtle and succulent. The table was mint clean and there was not ONE piece of dirt on my silverware (which is super rare these days). How was the food, you ask? Let's just say I've never had chicken that juicy and mouth watering for a very very long time. You can tell that it was marinated a good while, cooked to the right temperature and prepared by some of Chicago's finest chefs!! Lastly there is the staff. Both Sandra and Iryna were top notch professional servers. As someone who is traveled the world, the waiting skills these ladies embody compare to some of the finest restaurants I've ever eaten at. The same goes for the manager LV. In a restaurant that was at capacity he manage to also oversee not only my table but everyone's table. As a fellow manager myself I was in awe of his remarkable management decorum. Because of these three I will definitely be coming back very soon!! so here's the million dollar question... should you eat at the Gage? Well if the aforementioned review has not enticed you to experience The Gage, like I have, then I don't know what else will. It was definitely an experience I'll never forget. As mentioned, it's an experience I will definitely be trying to experience again (my office is only a few blocks away). So I signed off by highly recommending you head over to the Gage for a remarkable Michigan Ave dining experience. Set your expectations high and they will deliver. That's a fact. Until next time :-)

I dined here with a friend. They have a patio right on Michigan Ave., which was appreciated during COVID-19. Not the best outdoor dining experience; Michigan is very loud (multiple loud sports cars passed by, a mentally ill person gave a sermon, etc.), despite the restaurant’s efforts to create some patio ambience. The menu here has a nice set of options; it’s elevated gastropub fare. On some previous visits, the menu has struck me as heavy; I was happy to see some lighter options on this menu, and I really enjoyed a large salad with chicken. It tasted fresh, had great texture with the variety of veggies, and had a flavorful dressing. My friend enjoyed his meal, too. Where The Gage was thoroughly average was service. Our meal started with attentive service but the attentiveness declined as the meal continued, to the point where we were basically begging for service at the meal’s end. For example, we both decided to have a second cocktail. It took nearly 25 minutes for those cocktails to be delivered, despite the restaurant being near empty; we had to ask another server for an update on where they were, because our server had disappeared. Once they (finally) arrived, they were very tasty, as was the original round, but the wait and disappearing-server act was annoying. It was a similar situation with getting the check. Certainly one of the better options for dining in this part of the city, especially during the pandemic—it would have been a solid, if not terrific, experience had the service been better.

We chose to ear at The Gage because of it’s reputation. It was very difficult to get a reservation. Very pleasant ambience -starter inedible, main course good. Bill presented before we had finished eating. Waitress was very off-hand. Showed no interest in what was wrong with the starter and did not return to our table, so did not know or seem to care that there was obviously something not quite right with it. The starter, with nothing obviously eaten, was cleared As the bill was presented before we had finished eating, the waitress must have been presumed that we didn’t want coffee etc., she was off hand throughout, giving the impression that she did not really want to serve us. To cap it off - having paid the bill and left the restaurant, she had the audacity to run down the street after us to remonstrate about the fact that we had not left a tip. When the reason was given she reluctantly offered to remove the charge for the inedible starter. This restaurant appears to be more about style than substance and at about 200 dollars it wasn’t what I expected and would caution others to think before eating there

We had a 6:30pm reservation, which seemed rather early, but the restaurant was already bustling and nearly full when we arrived. The decor is quite appealing with brick walls, but the tables are too close together, allowing you to clearly hear the conversations of adjacent parties, and forcing the wait staff to squeeze between tables to avoid bumping the patrons. It’s also quite noisy, and I felt that I had to nearly shout at my husband, who doesn’t hear well in noisy environments. Nevertheless, we really enjoyed the meal and service was friendly and efficient. We had heirloom tomatoes with burrata to start. My husband had the pork chop which was perfectly cooked and served on a generous bed of potatoes and veggies. I had the venison burger which was juicy and delicious, and the fries were perfect. They have a large and inviting outdoor seating area, but there didn’t seem to be a way to specifically request that when making a reservation.

My husband and I enjoyed two excellent meals. At breakfast, our waiter and the chef were both very solicitous of my need for gluten-free options. At dinner, our hostess found a table for us in spite of confusion arising from from someone’s error with a third party reservation app. The food and service were excellent. We eat out often in NYC and this dinner was as good as anything we’ve enjoyed there.

Always great food, a strong beer selection and cool vibe. The venison burger is my go to ... it’s messy but absolutely delicious. On weekend mornings and afternoons, they have a combo of their standard menu plus breakfast. My husband loved his corned beef hash! The service this time was pretty slow and I attentive, which isn’t typical but the rest was great.

Outstanding service and fabulous food! We were looking for a Rooftop bar and thought Gage had one. When we asked the hostess about going to their Rooftop bar, she informed us that they didn't have one. THEN she called around to find availability at a nearby Rooftop bar for us. And they were slammed! She was so incredibly nice, we decided to come back for dinner. We had the fish and chips. The fish was perfectly prepared with a light batter, but very crisp and flavorful. My husband had the crab roll, which was outstanding. Then, we ordered the peach cobbler with ice cream and a cinnamon drizzle. It was HUGE and delicious! Lots of baking soda in the cobbler. Highly recommended this restaurant!

Great menu for everyone. Lots of choices and reasonable prices for dining on Michigan Ave. I happened to choose the beet salad with scallops added. Everyone at the table said their food choices were excellent: fish bowl really like a fish stew, hamburger, chicken X3 and mine. We had the apple cobbler type desert served with caramel and vanilla ice cream--it is large enough to share. The Manhattans were hit as well. I will return to this restaurant. Make sure to call for reservations.

With its superb location across from the Art Institute and beautiful outdoor terrace, I (jaded NYer) expected outrageous pricing and mediocre quality. Well The Gage sure was a pleasant surprise. Stunning aesthetic inside and out, top notch wait staff and a fun and varied menu for both Bev and food. Imaginative cocktails. Beautifully plated food, even at the height of lunch . They were packed with what appeared to be mostly locals and a sprinkling of tourists. A sophisticated crowd, for sure. My very sizeable soup(corn chowder) and half sandwich (smoked BLT) with salad arrived promptly. As of my August visit, Art Institute had no food or Bev options available. I'd certainly suggest you consider The Gage.

We were in the city wth friends for a football game. We made a reservation on Open Table and we were seated immediately into a cozy booth. Our server was perfectly timed and educated on everything. They offered a seasonal menu (Octoberfest how creative) but also had the favorites. The food and drinks were delicious. The atmosphere was lively and buzzing. We spent about $135 per couple.

I have enjoyed meals at The Gage for several years - they have remained very consistent with their food and service. The Gage is located right on Michigan Avenue - directly across from Millenium Park. It's a handsome place - but still welcoming. There is a nice bar at the front. Service is excellent: refined but still very personable. On this visit I enjoyed the Beet Salad and the Steak Frites. Both great. My steak was prepared exactly as ordered and the frites were crispy and delicious.

The Gage restaurant is a well known, upscale restaurant in the city, and has a perfect location near many attractions of the Chicago Loop -- parks, theatres, shops, cafes and other restaurants. I stopped at this restaurant for brunch, was seated right away in a nice, comfortable dining area indoors, which is one of several dining areas of The Gage. The server Lylah F couldn't be nicer: she was very hospitable, friendly, and commented on some items of the menu. The Classic Gage Breakfast was very good and tasty (eggs, sausage), not excellent though: bacon was very greasy, and potatoes were flavorless. The size of the meal was quite generous, and Saratoga bottled sparkling water was absolutely perfect. The restaurant is very nicely appointed, has a full bar, a pleasant-looking, large seating area outdoors, the decor is classic, as well as the whole relaxing ambiance in the restaurant. All staff was very polite, welcoming and attentive. Overall, I enjoyed my stop at The Gage, it was a nice break during a busy day, and the first acquaintance with this restaurant, so next time I will try to order something else from the menu, which looks very attractive, with many choices and details.
