We were going to see the Blue Man Group show at Briar Street Theater on Halsted and wanted to grab a bite of Indian food. Raj Darbar restaurant is walking distance from this theater so we decided to go there. As it happens we were running late and as we entered there restaurant, we were greeted graciously and when I indicated that we were running late and had a show to attend, the host told us that he will expedite our order and true to his word, we got our food within 15 mins. Now for the food, like most indian restaurants they provide papad with chutneys. I have a theory that has held true till now (for us anyway), if the chutneys are good, the food usually turns out to be good as well. At Raj Darbar, this theory proved true again. Both the Green coriander and sweet tamarind chutneys were fresh and actually really good. Next we ordered a "sizzler" paneer tikka for appitizer which turned out really good given it was cooked in half the time. Wasn't as smokey flavored as we would have liked, but given time constraints, it worked for us. For the main course we kept it "light" and went with Tadka Dal and Dal Makhni with rice. Both the Dals were well seasoned and not spicy as per our order and we were really satisfied the overall service and quality of food. Some day we will go back to try their other main courses. Here's another thing that most patrons of indian origin face in Indian restaurants. They (indians) dont' get nearly as courteous service from the restaurant staff as given to non-indian patrons. Raj Darbar's host was an exception here. He was really attentive and serviceable to our needs. Will go again.

Ate here with a restaurant.com deal. An early Friday Eve...attentive service. The food was really tasty. The wine list could be a little better maybe. My friend said he would return if in the neighborhood.

Service by manager or owner very indifferent, impersonal; almost non-communicative. No effort to encourage, or up-sell, beyond the usual Nan bread. Indian beer at $5/bottle. No great environment, unless you are into hearing the guys in the kitchen yammering away and the banging of pots. Apparently, their major business at night is take-outs. When we left after our meal, not even a "thank you" or "good night."

STAPLER PIN IN FOOD - I ordered onion bajiya from Raj Darbaar through uber eats. The onion bajiya had a stapler pin inside which I almost swallowed but managed to take out in time. There are definitely cuts inside my throat and mouth.

My daughter picked up from this restaurant for six of us and the food was great. We had mostly vegetarian food. Along with the rice, we shared Chana Masala (chick peas, etc in a brown sauce), Dal Makhani (lentils, etc in a brown sauce), Palak Alu (spinach dish), a tasty sauce with cheese chunks and a tasty dish with fish (maybe Fish Tikka Masala). We also had regular and garlic naan. The food was all delicious.

My boyfriend and I are their neighbors. We are moving out of state soon and whats funny is the thing were MOST upset about leaving is this place. The boys who help us with our carry out orders are always phenomenal and kind. The food is just as tasty as you would find on Devon ave, trust me....I visited enough where they knew me by name. Samosas....WOW!!! Paneer Makhani...again marvelous. You guys are truly a gem!! I cannot stress how delicious their food is!

Left a similar review with other restaurant review sites. This place is run by liars and crooks. Placed an online order for delivery through their website. After 1-1/2 hours of wondering where our food delivery was, we called Raj Darbar and was informed that there was a problem with their kitchen, they cannot prepare our order, and were "just about to" call us to inform us. They assured us that they were going to credit the charge back my card that evening. Three days later the whole charge from Raj Darbar posted to my credit card. Had to call my credit card issuer to dispute the charge. I don't appreciate being lied to, ripped off, and having my time wasted. And neither should you. Avoid this place like the plague!

Great standard Indian cuisine if you're in the area. They haven't updated their interior in decades though. They seem to have a great takeout and delivery business so I don't think updating the ambiance is their priority. If they did I might go there more often though. Great chicken vindaloo. I crave it often.

Would give 2.5 stars so the 2 stars is slightly harsh.Have had delivery from here and it was great so bought the groupon for dine in. Went on a quiet Friday night. The guy took our order without writing it down and was back 15 seconds later to ask again but didn't write it down. When it arrived I'm sure it was wrong, my Dopiaza was mostly peppers and that wasn't listed on the menu. We also asked for the Jalfrezi medium to spicy and the Dopiaza very spicy but they were both mild and definitely no difference between the two. They both tasted just about ok but not sure what happened with the order, hence the 2 stars. Very disappointing, there is a few Indian places in the area so unlikely to be going back unless there's an offer.

Raj Darbar is amazing. Their dishes are perfectly seasoned, have just the right amount of kick, and hold up beautifully for delivery/take out. We tried an assortment of dishes, including the butter chicken, chicken biryani, samosas, two kinds of naan, and the creamed spinach with potatoes. Everything was absolutely delicious and we had so much leftover (which reheated well and still tasted great). I really have to agree that Raj is the best Indian around in Chicago. It came highly recommended by locals, and definitely didn't disappoint.

Whoever rates this restaurant has no notion of what an original curry tastes like. I didn't go through the whole menu, but the "emblematic" chicken tika masala dish, (which I've tasted in many dozens Indian traditional restaurants) was nothing but overcooked packed chicken pieces with a mix of ragu and some veggies. They claim to be Michelin's choice for several years but this was frankly my first and last time to chose when I visit Chicago. I regret to be so honest as the manager/waiters were really collaborative but the chef has definitely no place in the kitchen. Prices were acceptable for a bunch of chicken pieces with ketchup and some rice.

This was our second visit and we enjoyed it just as much as the first time. Flavorful dishes and fast service. A big bonus you can bring your own bottles of wine in and they don't charge you to uncork it! I will return.

We did not explore other options for Indian in the neighborhood or the greater Chicago area. But as we walked back to our hotel after a long day of touring, we were lured into RD by the prospect of enjoying Indian food which wehad not tasted since our trip to India in February. RD serves Indian food that one can count on time after time. The dishes have the expected flavors of typical Indian food. We did encounter an interesting variation with the Vegetable Jalfreazi which are vegetables combined with tomatoes in a curry sauce that is not creamy. We thought that this dish was the best of what we ordered. RD offers a good option for those looking for a nearby Indian restaurant. We did notice that the restaurant has a brisk take out business.

I lived in Chicago for 4 years and took everyone who visited me here. Every time I come back, it's a must. Affordable, delicious, kind service, and consistent quality. I haven't had anything I haven't loved.
