Very dated (decor 20? years old) but we enjoyed dinner, things were clean and service was fine. Both curries had good flavor. I could see why they had a steady stream of takeout orders.

After reading my previous review (2016), I can say the Dao is still one of our favorite neighborhood restaurants. (And, for tourists to Chicago on their way to Navy Pier, this is a great stop for Thai food!) While eating in the restaurant is recommended--interesting...Thai decor--we recently ordered food for a dinner party and were very pleased with how smoothly everything went. Dishes were well packaged and arrived on time. Our menu choices, not surprisingly for us, are consistent: Singapore Noodles (curry & shrimp), Rama Chicken, Chicken Satay, Mixed vegetables (nice big chunks), Vietnamese Spring Rolls, Stir-fried Green Beans. Impossible to pass up is the Pad Thai. Containers with special sauces were also provided. The menu is extensive, so definitely try the other options--some with a lot of heat, others on the mild side. Basil Leaves with Meat and Dao's Noodle Delight are suggested as are the soups.More
I was on my way to a different restaurant when I saw Dao Thai. Something about the outside drew me in. It’s a cute neighborhood place with kind staff, great food and pretty good prices.
Good food overall, not so much for the egg rolls. Many food options in the area. Some felt like having Pad Woon Sen which was tasty.
The food was phenomenal. We went during lunch time. I had the Green Curry with chicken, and my sister had the Pad Thai. We also had Shu Mai for an appetizer. The taste of our food was really good, and they made my curry spicy,...just as I asked. I look forward to going to this place again and trying other dishes. Better than other Thai restaurants I've been to. Also, the employees were very nice.More
We were craving some good Thai food and visiting here was not a disappointment at all. Such friendly and welcoming service from all the staff and we ordered a diverse group of dishes including soup, satay, spring rolls, potstickers, teriyaki, chicken cashew, noodles and rice....All absolutely delicious and a good atmosphere with Thai decor.More
We were looking for someplace within walking distance of our hotel as we had been traveling for most of the day. This restaurant came up in a Google search, and since we like Thai food, we decided to go. It was a great way to...relax. It was a pleasant evening so we sat in the outdoor patio which was surprisingly quiet considering that it's on a main street. It took a little too long to get our drinks, but once we did, service got better. The appetizers and the main courses arrived at a reasonable pace (not rushed), and the cold lychee nuts were a very refreshing dessert.More
Happened to find this place while walking around Chicago, lucky us! Very friendly, great service and the food was great! The kind you want to try to make yourself, but it just won't be the same...
Enjoyed the mussaman curry a lot. The pineapple in it was a sweet surprise. Others in my party enjoyed the mild curry and the pad thai. The potstickers were also good. Drinks left a lot to be desired. Not a fancy place - ma and...pa atmosphere.More
$16 for pad Thai and a drink was a bit much. I don’t mind to pay for good food though. The noodles were severely overcooked and mushy.
Got the Pad Thai to go, since you can’t get it any other way these days. It was very dry and didn’t have a lot of flavor. Basically a bunch of stuck together noodles packed in a to go container with some chicken on top....The highlight was the hot sauce they included on the side.More
When I was recently here for lunch, I ordered chicken satay and tom kha soup. I really enjoyed the soup--the broth was very rich and flavorful. The satay sauce was not bad but also not particularly distinctive. After reading some recent reviews about dry meat,...I was very happy when my chicken came out very tender and juicy. The service was very friendly and fast. My only real complaint is that when I walked in the door, the smell of incense was almost overwhelming.More
This Thai restaurant was around the corner of my hotel, so conveniently close. Service was swift and friendly and food was great, good value for your money.
The staff were very nice and friendly, nice ambience in the restaurant and food was ok but all the meats were dry and over cooked We started with cream cheese Crab Rangoon but couldn’t find any crab meat in them. We then shared a beef...with vegetables and the vegetables were cooked very well not over cooked at all. We also shared a Pad Thai which was very tasty but over cooked chicken and not traditional pad Thai noodles. The food was fine overall and staff were very nice but we won’t be returning or recommending to others. If you don’t eat meat you will love it here.More
Not handicap accessible, but good, plentiful authentic food in clean atmosphere with gently themed decor & a pleasant staff. Hot curry was really hot! Chicken satay & cucumber salad are good bets.
