We were invited by another couple to join them and another couple at one of our favorite places to dine: Mariscos El Barco. The tequila selection is muy largo y tambien fantastica. We started with guacamole and chips and queso fundido that were accented by the highly acclaimed sauces (green) and the ground peppers, olives and garlic. The fish tacos(mahi-... More

If you have any interest in fish, sea food, or creative Mexican cuisine, don't miss El Barco Mariscos. The restaurant is completely original and bilingual. Fish are artistically served upright on long slender platters. Plus, there are giant fish and life sized sharks hanging from the ceiling. Seriously, this food is amazing.

On a recent visit to Chicago, my wife and I and our daughter and her husband ate at El Barco. While we thought going early would get us seated right away, we were wrong. At 5:30 on a Sunday, the place was already packed with families. While it was a little noisy, we weren't concerned because everyone seemed to be... More

Arrived in Chicago and went straight here for a meal. Thankfully it was everything we could have wished for. Tacos and quesadillas were all we wanted, but we could still see others' huge platters. And the service was speedy and friendly, matched by a really welcoming atmosphere.

We came here at a friend's advice. We were delighted. The staff was friendly and helpful and the food and drinks were delicious. There was a parking attendant that helped find a close spot. We had ceviche de pescado, tacos al pastor de pescado and other treats. I will go there again! Make sure to try the raspberry margaritas!

This is a very nice, authentic Mexican place with responsive staff. The food servings are huge. The dishes are mostly seafood, slightly overcooked, which also come with plenty of sides, on large platters. The margaritas are strong, perhaps a bit sweet. The atmosphere (family dinner), staff and clientele are generally Mexican, which is a good thing. The staff is responsive... More

We brought out-of-town guests here for dinner and I can't say enough about the responsive waitstaff and freshly prepared foods. From the salsas to the snapper prepared Veracruz style to the margaritas, our guests really enjoyed the experience. The margaritas are not overly sweet or sour. We prefer to sit inside the tiny dining room as the ambiance is authentic-... More

We have heard about this place for a long time. The atmosphere was nice and it had a nice family dinner kinda feeling. Service was good and the waiter explained the dishes very well. We had the mariscada which is was a HUGE dish and it was Ok. Unfortunately, although it had a good taste, everything was very overcooked. The... More

Two of us went there for fish and were very pleased. We shared a large red snapper. Well cooked, if slightly overdone, good vegetables sounding the fish. Great service, but suggest you ask carefully about the menu items if you don't read Spanish. Would go back and we were impressed.
