Close to the Chicago History Museum, Nookies is a neighborhood joint offering creative diner fare. We intentionally ordered light in anticipation of a big dinner. Service was friendly but it felt like we waited a long time for our grilled cheese and tuna melt to arrive. The specialty breakfast creations going by were mouth-watering. We’d return to try them if back in the neighborhood with bigger appetites.

We ran in here because it started pouring rain and it was a great late breakfast spot on a Friday! Seated right away, friendly host, friendly waitress. We all got different breakfast meals and enjoyed them. Attentive to coffee and water refills. 5/5. The next time we visit Chicago, we’ll be back!

First time visit. Outstanding food, excellent service, clean environment. Ordered a special sampler trio of pumpkin pancakes with pecans, bread pudding pancakes with plum pudding, and a French toast with orange zest/ pineapple/ strawberry topping. I literally took a couple bites of each. This sampler plate was incredible. The rest was going home. I also ordered a three egg veggie omelet with cheddar, a fruit cup, and sour dough toast. Ate a little bit of all that, and took the rest home. My husband enjoyed his omelette, and also took part of it home. Portions are indeed generous. Our biggest pleasure was their delicious coffee. Honestly, this place was truly a wonderful experience. We will return!

My wife and I used to frequent Nookies at 1746 North Wells Street every Friday for breakfast or lunch. Then COVID struck. We didn't go anywhere in the last two years. We even cancelled five vacation trips. We really missed Nookies. But the pandemic has eased, we hope, so we have begun to return to our normal lives. That means breakfast or lunch at Nookies. Located in Chicago's historic Old Town neighborhood, north of North Avenue, it is open from 7 to 3 Sunday through Thursday and 7 to 4 on Friday and Saturday. This family owned operation opened in 1973. Another location is at 2114 North Halsted in the Lincoln Park neighborhood. They specialize in all-day breakfast but lunch is a treat, too. I was delighted to see that their famous fresh squeezed orange juice is as sweet and delicious as always, better than anything I've ever tasted anywhere else, even in Florida. Maybe that's because they use California oranges. That's how I start my breakfast. Then oatmeal with brown sugar, raisins and strawberries. Then traditional Eggs Benedict with two poached eggs and Canadian bacon on an English muffin with hollandaise sauce and a side order of hash browns. Meanwhile, my wife prefers a Belgian waffle with sausage links and a fruit bowl. If I'm not in a mood for Eggs Benedict, which is rare, I opt for corned beef hash with two scrambled eggs, hash browns, toast and strawberry jam. Lunch? We start with bowls of cram of chicken rice or tomato pasta or chicken noodle soup. I usually have a Monte Cristo sandwich with ham, turkey and Swiss cheese on French toast or a Monster Melt with a large beef patty on grilled rye with cheddar cheese and grilled onions. With coleslaw and fries. My wife's favorite choices are a turkey and Swiss croissant or a hot turkey sandwich open-faced with mashed potatoes and gravy. No complaints here. Good to see that Nookies remains as popular with the public as it was before COVID.

Tragically, we thought we had lost a close friend. Fortunately, we hadn't. After being closed for more than a month because of the Coronavirus, Nookies restaurant at 1746 North Wells Street in Chicago's historic Old Town neighborhood has reopened. My wife and I missed our weekly visits to Nookies, the family-owned local chain with the friendly service, all-day breakfast, tasty lunches and the sweetest, freshest tasting orange juice this side of California. On our long-awaited return, my wife ordered her favorite, a Belgian waffle with strawberries, while I enjoyed a bowl of tomato pasta soup and a Monster Melt, a juicy piece of broiled hamburger beef on grilled rye bread with cheddar cheese and grilled onions. And a glass of orange juice. A visit to Nookies, which is open daily from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m., with its comprehensive menu and friendly neighborhood vibe, always is a pleasant experience. No more shutdowns, please.

It isn't often that you see a restaurant review that touts the orange juice. But Nookies deserves the accolade. I've written it before and I'm writing it again. Nookies' fresh squeezed orange juice, made from California oranges, is the sweetest and freshest and most delicious I've ever tasted. Located at 1746 North Wells Street in Chicago's historic Old Town neighborhood, Nookies has been offering orange juice with all-day breakfast, lunch and dinner since 1973. Open from 6:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily, this is the flagship of the Alexopoulos family's four local restaurants. The others are located in Lakeview, Lincoln Park and Edgewater. My wife and I have been regulars at Nookies since we moved into the Gold Coast neighborhood in 1983, about five blocks from the restaurant. We usually arrive between 11 and noon, then choose breakfast or lunch, depending on our mood or taste. For breakfast, it's orange juice, Belgian waffle with strawberries, Eggs Benedict with two poached eggs, Canadian bacon, English muffin and hollandaise sauce with hash brown potatoes or corned beef hash with two poached eggs, hash browns and toast. For lunch, I opt for a tossed salad with mixed lettuce, tomato, cucumber, red onion and croutons with a bowl of tomato pasta or rice and barley soup with bread or a hot turkey sandwich, open-faced with mashed potatoes and gravy or a Monte Cristo sandwich with ham, turkey and Swiss cheese on French toast. My wife's favorites are turkey a burger, a turkey and Swiss on a croissant or a pulled pork sandwich on a brioche bun with BBQ sauce. Service is swift and friendly, food is hot and fresh and the atmosphere is neighborly.

What a great place. It says it’s a diner and it has diner food but so much more. 8 of us all loved our food from my special Paris Benedict (with gruyere cheese and asparagus) to Bessys skillet to cinnamon roll pancakes. Clean warm atmosphere. Can’t wait to go again

It was a rainy Chicago day. We three were tourists looking for a cup of coffee and a quick breakfast. The coffee was great, the smokehouse frittata was better and the 3 crepes were the best. $41.85 Yum . Fresh strawberries, fresh blueberries, and sweet cream cheese. Hats off to the chef. The manager greeted us as we entered, a switch up from the usual Chicago experience. Thanks to all

Food was good. The atmosphere is great, feels like an upscale diner. We went on a Saturday at 11am with no wait inside, but 30 minutes outside. Staff was friendly but very overworked, only one waitress for the entire front area. However, she was very kind albeit a bit stressed. Our meal was correct and came to us in a reasonable amount of time. Would definitely recommend.

I came to Nookies through an acquaintance who invited me to lunch. Being a foreigner it was unlikely that she would enter. My friend is a volunteer tour guide and is from Chicago. Beautiful place. In capital letters because the atmosphere is very nice, the food is delicious and abundant, an extensive and varied menu, careful and cordial service. The salads are huge (the Santa Fe is delicious). Water and coffee included. To recommend!

Looking for a place for breakfast and saw good reviews on trip advisor and glad we went. We had to wait a few minutes to get seated but was blown away by how big the place is. I think we went thru three rooms before we were seated. Probably the best meal I had in the four days I was in Chicago . Besides all the food being really good and fresh the prices were reasonable. Two pancakes two eggs hash browns were more than enough for one meal. Great place to go.

Had brunch at Nookies when we went down for the Van Gogh experience. Nice location, good staff and good food. I didn't really see any super unique items on the menu, but there was a nice variety. We ate outside as it was a nice day. Service was relatively quick , we had the opportunity to visit with the owner. I'd definitely try this establishment again if I were in the area. it appears to be a local favorite.

I had a giant & very good breakfast with huckleberry pancakes (huge !) , eggs, bacon and potatoes. I did not expect something this big and it was the perfect full american breakfast before my flight to Europe. I will definitely be back.

Love going to any of the Nookies. This time was post wedding breakfast. Large group (10) of us got a table to recoup from the night before. Nothing better than a rib-sticking breakfast to prepare you for the rest of the day. can't wait for a reason to be back in town.
