Went to The Original Rainbow Cone with my 7 y/o. We had one baby scoop of strawberry and one large Rainbow Cone with no nuts. Great place to reminisce, long time location in The Beverly Historic neighborhood. Many flavors to choose from, if you don't like the Rainbow flavors. Parking and sitting area outside available, but usually you just stand... More

As a long time Chicagoan, I had been wanting to visit Original Rainbow Cone. I finally went last night. The AC was broken, so it was super hot. But, they did give a 10% discount for the inconvenience. It was very good, I think I liked the Palmer House the best. The store is no where near downtown Chicago. I... More

Rainbow Cone is a delicious and friendly neighborhood place in Chicago. Every ice cream is delicious even if you don't get the rainbow cone although I do suggest it. It is reasonably priced and is a great treat for families or friends.

My parents use to take my brother and me here in the summertime when we were growing up during the 60’s. I had not been back in decades and decided to take the time to revisit a place from my youth. It was delightful trip, which brought back great memories, and the ice cream was as I remembered it as... More

As our activities are around the Michigan lake area, we tried the rainbow cone at the Navy Pier instead of visiting the original store. The rainbow cobe taste so good but I think it's a little bit pricey. Since the location is small, they don't have much selection, overall it's good.

Rainbow Cone at Navy Pier - amazing! The ice cream flavors don't seem like they would go together but they go together perfectly. I was excited to try this native concoction and I have to say it lived up to every single positive review I came across! There are benches close by - no better way to take a break... More

I loved how you get several different flavors. They aren't layered in scoops rather in slices/slabs. It's soft and creamy. You can get a cup or cone.

We were told this icecream is a must try while visiting Chicago. It was $8 for an icecream cone. A bit steep but comparable to the area. The family loved it.

When I lived in Blue Island in the 1940s, 1950s and 1960s, I always had two destinations for hamburgers and ice cream--the White Castle at 127th and South Western Avenue in Blue Island and the Original Rainbow Cone at 9233 South Western in Beverly. I've moved a lot since then. Now I live in downtown Chicago. But White Castle and... More

Rainbow Cone now has a stand on Navy Pier. Here's how to find it: it's on the south side of the pier (to the right if walking in), about halfway down, across from Riva Cafe. It is directly on the water. There are several boat ticket kiosks in a row. After the Tall Ship kiosk, there's a modern-ish metal kiosk/booth... More

Staying in Beverly

Neighbourhood Profile
Beverly
One of the South Side’s most architecturally arresting neighborhoods, Beverly is a quiet area where you’ll find more residents than tourists. You don’t have to travel far to see an Irish castle: the Beverly Unitarian Church sits commandingly on South Longwood Drive. This traditionally Irish neighborhood is now a mix of cultures but still maintains its strong roots in the neighborhood pubs lining Western Avenue. Though Beverly may be off the beaten path, its hilly geography makes it visually unique. Enjoy the neighborhood’s green space in the Dan Ryan Forest Preserve or visit one of several historic homes and districts along South Longwood Drive, including one of four Frank Lloyd Wright homes in the neighborhood.
