Met friends for early Sunday dinner. They are local, while we were visiting Chicago for the weekend. And they swear by this place, on N. Damen right off the Brown line. While the place was mostly empty when we arrived mid-afternoon, it was fairly full by the time we left two hours later. Plain decor, pretty much what you'd expect in a neighborhood Chinese restaurant (which has been here for some 60 years!). We ordered some dishes to share--vegetable fried rice, fried noodles, and crab rangoon (yum!) to share. Plus entree dishes for each, including Fried Shrimp with Peapods and Hong Sue Chicken. Everything was delicious! Portions are generous (we all took food home). No alcoholic beverages served here, but you can bring in your own.

My husband and I often order or go in on Sundays for our Shanghai Shunday feast! Some of our favorites are the sweet & sour chicken, beef & broccoli, wonton soup, shrimp with lobster sauce, sesame chicken, and any of the chow fon!
Do yourself a favor and check it out.

I haven’t had there food in years we got it delivered to my daughters and it was even better than I remembered. I had the Tao chicken mild. Was perfect. And the crab ragoons are so good. We just always enjoy there food.

The restaurant is very clean and the staff is quick and helpful. We had the mongolian beef and the chicken with peapods, it was delicious and more than enough food.

This is my all time favorite Chinese restaurant Hands down. From service to the quality and taste of the food is above and beyond anything I’ve ever had in illinois. My favorite simple dish combination fried rice medium spicy, crab Rangoon and pot stickers along with a great egg roll and egg drop soup bam what a meal. cant forget the almond cookies !!
This evening my sister ordered the Mongolian beef which was full of flavor great dish!
Everything is awesome you won’t be disappointed!

We recently went to Shanghai Inn with our family and were very happy with it. We were looking for what we call “New York Chinese,” which we define as a place having good versions of the classic things we grew up with (egg rolls, doughy pork potstickers, sesame chicken, moo shu, etc.) We definitely found what we were looking for!
We had great pork potstickers, boneless bbq pork, sesame chicken, chicken moo shu, sweat and sour shrimp, and pork fried rice.
Service was fast and super friendly. We’d definitely go again!

This will be our new Chinese food joint for our family. Luckily it is not that close to our home, otherwise, we will be there all the time.
All the dishes we ordered were excellent with great flavors and right amount of heat for our taste. We will definitively going there as often as we can.

Shanghai is our go to neighborhood spot! We’re here three or more times a month. Staff is extra friendly and helpful in making decisions. Food is delicious whether youre dining in (get the hot tea + know that mostly everything is largely portioned with plenty to take home) or picking it up to go. We consistently order the wonton soup, potstickers (outstanding!), beef & peapods, shrimp & lobster sauce, any type of chow fun or fried rice. We always venture out, choosing something new when we dine in. I recommend giving Shanghai a try, I don’t think you’ll be disappointed!

Very nice staff serving great Chinese food in large portions. My lunch special was large enough for two to split for dinner!

Take a chance on this place. You won't be disappointed. One of the few in not the only restaurant in the area that serves Pressed Almond Duck because it takes days to prepare. Lisa and the staff are wonderful and they make you part of their little family. We have to drive an hour to get there but we do it once a month just because it is so good.

Another family favorite, we've been eating at Shanghai Inn since it opened. My mom remembers the staff when they were just kids helping at the family restaurant after school. This is honestly some of the most delicious Chinese you'll have in The States. The vegetable fried rice is so fragrant with wonderful crisp bean sprouts and chopped scallions. The chicken chop suey was always a favorite. If I went tomorrow, I'd order a heaping bowl of Mongolian Beef with Potstickers.
