Would be easy to walk right by if you didn't know this was a restaurant. Loved the comfortably worn decor inside and the outdoor patio is gorgeous. Tables are shaded by a beautiful tree and we were serenaded with bird song as we ate our...breakfast. Spinach quiche was perfect and served with a salad and the breakfast bowl was really good, too. Our coffees were served nice and hot. Service was quick and friendly.More

The vibes are very nice, a great place to study, relax, read, and more. Many different varieties of drinks and food. A large selection of tea too! Highly recommend. :)

You've got to love a place with a large dictionary in one of the dining rooms. I'm impressed by the tea selection - you chose what you want from the jars on the shelves, each one gives you origin and an idea of taste. The...staff is very friendly and knowledgeable and can give good recommendations. I also ate there twice and had really tasty vegetarian sandwiches. Food choices have literary names. If you like chocolate and they have brownies when you're there, get one, absolutely delicious. The courtyard is nice to eat or sit and your drink in. Just notices tonight that there is a cute iron Eiffel Tower over the gate. Such a nice local spot to spend some time in.More

I saw the pictures of this place and I decided to go. I had high expectation for the coffee and I was very disappointed to find a very bad coffee in one of the best spot where I've been so far. The place has huge...potential, I love the music and the old furniture. It makes you feel out of time, maybe 200 years back in the past. The second floor is even better. The service was great, interesting talk with the guy there, but I cannot drink that coffee. Small change, but I guess it can have huge impact.More

Having walked past many times I finally went in and really liked what I saw. I decided to take my coffee outside under the canopy of trees set up to screen you from the afternoon sun. Pastry's, quiche, salads, vegetarian, vegan, coffee drinks, and teas....Really a place to go if you are a local but if you travel and seek the local vibe, this is the type of place you seek. I hope the regulars do shoot me next time I am in.... I forgot this little kid bit. They have a lending library on the patio. Feel free to read while you are there. Take a book to donate to the system, if you are so inclined!More

As other reviews have noted, they were out of a lot of basic things. There were no breakfast bakery items left in display case (except for pie, but who eats pie for breakfast?). When I asked if they had any breakfast bread items left, they...said “no”- which is shocking. If you don’t want to eat much, then it’s probably a great place for coffee. Nice indoor and outdoor area, but we at least wanted a croissant or bagel or rolls or something to go with coffee, so we left since they were totally out of basic cafe items. Management needs to stock up better since others have mentioned this too. It’s like they didn’t care.More

On a recent visit on the early side of the lunch rush (11:30ish), an otherwise perfectly friendly and helpful member of staff had to inform me that they had "run out" of the bread that one of their signature sandwiches came with. Surprising, I thought,...that one of the key items in one of the signature offerings is not available at the beginning of the lunch hour. In addition, the place, formerly an institution renowned among DePaul students as much as others, bears less and less closer visual inspection. The ceiling fan for instance, covered in a mix of dust and cooking oils, represents a major challenge to anybody's appetite. The sandwich came out fine, but the environment, notwithstanding the intended Boheme style, needs some clean up.More

A beautiful cozy and historic cafe with a vast menu and a barista with perfect sills such that the milk is heated exactly to release those natural sugars in my dry cap.

Good spot with inside/outside seating. Latte and sandwich were very average altho it is a former award winner in '14 and '15. On way from Lincoln Park/Fullerton St to Fullerton Red Line stop. Sandwich line up is very intriguing and desserts looked good.

Have not been to the Bourgeois Pig in about a year. It used to be very good. Tried to order lunch to go on a Tuesday; roughly at noon. You'd expect that to be prime time for a sandwich place. So I ordered what was...designated as an all time favorite: Pilgrim's Progress. Only to be told they were out of bread (at noon). All I could order was a panini. So I ordered the chicken panini to be told they were out of chicken. I then ordered a spinach salad without goat cheese. Needless to say when we got home we discovered that the salad was covered with goat cheese. and it was really not very good. all in all quite disappointingMore

First, I will say that the places to sit in this cafe are expansive ... with many rooms, tables and seating options. That part I loved! What didn't I like? The coffee and tea we had were mediocre at best. I was told by the...counter help to choose my tea and bring it over to her (the service was a bit surly) and I chose the aged (three years) puerh tea, which turned out to be just gross in its taste. The overall atmosphere seemed like it had been charming in years past, but had a forgotten, neglected vibe to it. We went elsewhere for our second cups and food.More

The food and atmosphere turned out to be even better than the website promised. It seems to be a quaint old (former) house on a commercial block, and the outdoor seating was a plus since things are a bit tight indoors. The sandwiches have clever...names from Shakespeare and other literary legends, and the variety of drinks and salads did not disappoint. The Hamlet boasted some of the best, crusty sourdough I've had anywhere. Being in a neighborhood meant dogs and their masters came by every few minutes for some friendly interaction. Can't wait to come back with friends.More

This independent coffee shop has a massive menu. The food is generally tasty and, even though there's usually a long line, the wait is worth it. The restaurant is deceptively large, with indoor and outdoor seating involving two storefront plus an upstairs seating area. The...server, Michael, was great and did not seem at all flapped by the long line of people waiting. The bathroom is tiny (only one), and the brownie was dry. And it was surprisingly costly for a lunch with Lattes plus a few sweet items to go. So, sort of aixed bag, but we would go back. This place has a nice laid back vibe.More
