The service is excellent. In a competitive Chicago restaurant market, that says a lot. The food is great. But the prices are high, even for a Chicago tapas restaurant. Be sure to order the bacon wrapped dates...outstanding.

The first time in years I have been to a true tapas bar/restaurant. What a treat. We sat at the bar and enjoyed shrimp and dates wrapped in bacon. Went back the second night and had more tapas: egg omelet , scallops and more dates wrapped in bacon. The staff was extremely friendly and made us a special Cosmos with... More

Hi Bess W - Thanks for sharing your recent experience at Mercat! I'm so happy to hear you enjoyed both of your visits, dining at the bar versus the dining room can provide a whole different experience, but it sounds like the food and drinks were on point both times around. We look forward to seeing you this month, we'll... More

A very nicely decorated and inviting tapas restaurant. We enjoyed the food, and the Sangria was excellent. The dishes were very small and very expensive although tasty. The steak portion was about 6 0z. and cost $ 40. Our bill for 4 including 1 drink each was over $ 300.

We started our meal with a cheese plate that was tasty but not knock your socks off and feared this restaurant would not live up to its reputation. Then the dates arrived. Oh my gosh, bacon wrapped dates stuffed with almonds and drizzled with a Spanish cheese sauce that tasted like a delicate blue cheese. These were amazing. We followed... More

This is a very good tapas restaurant with Spanish style tapas and some creative dishes I hadn't seen before. The wine list has an impressive number of Spanish wines, both red and white. My particular favorites were the creative dishes that include a farro with currants, apple, feta cheese, with a tangy red-wine based sauce (excellent) and the roasted cauliflower.... More

I have visited twice this restaurant. Overall very good. Nice tapas and variety of dishes. I recommend it. Both times with large groups from Latin America Argentinean and Mexican customer, we had 7 to 9 guests. We have enjoyed it. Lobster and paella very good same as steak and gambas tapas.

I had the Catalan Express lunch. I chose the ham and fig salad and the Mercat burger. Both were very tasty, and amounted to more food than I could eat. The service was very good, and the view across the street to Grant Park was good for people watching. The menu didn't disclose pecans on the salad, and they were... More

This Spanish restaurant offers two different types of tasting menus. The lower priced one clearly doesn't have as nice items. Either can be paired or not with wine. There are 3,main courses and four dishes within each. He only complaint we had was that the food came out too quickly. But overall it was a fun and tasty experience.

Conveniently located in the Blackstone, Iron Chef Jose Garces tapas restaurant is a MUST. The cocktails were imaginative and delicious. We ordered 6 small plates to share as advised by our attentive server and it was perfect. As each plate arrived our server explained the ingredients - superb! The flavors were a perfectly layered and the tapas were served in... More
