Great find! This place came recommended, so we have it a try. Great cozy atmosphere and great service. I had the tuna tacos and my husband had the double cheeseburger with bacon and egg as well as onion rings. So good!

This is a casual seafood restaurant with amazing food! My husband and I both got the crabcakes, which were way more than we could eat with the sides they come with. The food was absolutely delicious. We also had the crab bisque which was out...of this world. We went at dinnertime and only had to wait a few minutes to be seated. The service was excellent as well.More

Local food joint. They have crab cakes down south, have to try them. Good size, for the dinner option with 2 sides. Freshly made. Surprised they didn't put lemons with the order. Prices were fine. Loud bar/restaurant but that is to be expected. Enjoy the...food.More

The staff was great, but I felt the seafood was overcooked and had little flavor. I was told to get the clam chowder, because it was supposedly great, however , I just found it odd since it tasted sweet. The best part of the meal...was the grits and butter cake which I would recommend both.More

Nice laid back atmosphere. Outdoor seating. Fried shrimp was great - this is from someone that used to shrimp in Charleston and cook it fresh! Sides were good too!

This is an old-fashioned seafood shack but located on prime real estate near the pier and the main dining and shopping area in downtown St. Simons. There is indoor and limited outdoor seating. But the seafood is excellent. I had oysters on the half shell...for an appetizer (they were small but tasty, and I think $11 for a half dozen, which these days counts as a bargain.) For my main dish I again went for oysters, in this case fried. Perfectly fried with a light batter, and the oysters were a lot bigger than the half shell raw oysters. The restaurant wasn't full on a cool night in late November, but it was fairly busy. Service very good and friednly. Most drinks are reasonably priced. I think my gin and tonic was $11, and there's a small selection of local and regional craft draft beers. All in all, a popular place for well priced seafood. Would go back.More

The BLT crab cake sandwich with bacon wrapped green beans are both excellent. The fried oysters are good. The pineapple punch is amazing.

When we are on Saint Simons Island we always try to eat at the Half Shell. Oysters from Virginia, shrimp from Georgia. All fresh and tasty. In- and outdoor seating. Waitresses were friendly. It’s really a good casual place to eat, but no reservations accepted.

We should have skipped this restaurant. Nothing was great just like regular food that you can get anywhere. They did have a nice porch.

Stopped in around 2:30 on Sunday for late lunch. Seated outside and had very good service by Kelsie K Drinks were brought immediately and she gave us time to review the menu. My wife chose the catch of the day which was grilled flounder and...two sides which were a]cole slaw and the house salad. The flounder was excellent. And the salad while simple was fresh and chilled. The balsamic dressing was tasty. She felt slaw was just ok. I ordered the house salad with very good blu cheese dressing and the Bar BQ shrimp and cheese grits. This included a very spicy andouille sausage along with grilled onions and peppers. The 12 shrimp had been blackened and the cheese grits were very good and I enjoyed the overall dish.More

Half Shell is worth the wait! They do not accept reservations so come a bit early, get your name on the list and enjoy walking around the village. It is super casual but the staff is amazing and the food comes quickly. We loved everything...we tried - from calamari and tuna tacos to fried oysters and crab bisque. Hated we did not have room to try desert - will save room for our next visit. Small amount of outdoor seating available, which is always nice on a pretty evening.More

We went to this place because we heard about it in a jesse rice song. The location and atmosphere were great. The food and drinks were great. I highly recommend this place.

Yummy supper, great service. We checked in about 4:45 and it was already a 30 minute wait but it was Saturday and we had fun wandering around the market and park while we waited. Fried shrimp and fried oysters were perfect. Nothing fancy but just...right.More

This was our first trip to The Half Shell, and it immediately became one of our favorites on SSI. There's nothing fancy about the place, but the service was outstanding, and the food was excellent. Our party enjoyed: ceviche and a crab cake appetizer with...cheese grits ("best meal of the week"), crab soup and tuna tacos ("excellent"), friend shrimp with a side of cheese grits ("really good"), BBQ shrimp and grits ("really good but I could do without all the onions and peppers"), a burger ("really good"), and a crab cake with grits ("good"). The shrimp and grits came out a little later than everything else - we barely noticed - so the server gave us a free butter cake to share, and it was delicious. One public service announcement re: the shrimp and grits from a family that loves shrimp and grits - these are not your traditional shrimp and grits, something we knew upon ordering. They have a BBQ sauce and lots of peppers and onions. If that is not your thing, order another entrée with the cheese grits as a side. The cheese grits are outstanding. Well, everything was outstanding.More
