My date and I ate here twice as we waited out Hurricane Matthew. I enjoy the reasonable serving sizes, excellent preparation and service. Our first visit was great with excellent espresso and a breakfast sandwich and bagel with smoked trout. Inexplicably on our second visit, they were out of breakfast sandwiches and the espresso was not nearly as tasty.

This was my first dining experience at Cakes and Ale, although my dining partners have enjoyed this restaurant many times before. Our meal was Simply Outstanding! 2 of us, had the Grouper , apparently a new menu item. It was to die for. The other entree was the Lamb Shoulder, which was excellent. The starters , desert and bread service... More

Funky, mismatched barware and plates make the place seem more casual than the food would have you believe. My "better days ahead" cocktail came in an Elvis highball. utterly delicious with the blood orange and ginger beer flavors. I had the shaved porchetta with an incredible gribiche as a first course and the pork lion with veg and a green... More

Went just last Friday night, 9/9/16 early in the evening and it was excellent. Had a wonderful jalapeno infused drink that was very nice, lamb shank that was cooked just right. Melon and proscuitto for an appetizer along with a tomato salad. I highly recommend C&A.

Excellent meal. Tim treated us well. Had a lamb shank with melon and prosciutto for appetizer. An excellent French Sauvignon Blanc was perfect.

A friend and I enjoyed lunch at Cakes and Ale during the 2016 Decatur Book Festival. We both ordered quiche with salad and enjoyed beverages from their very interest (in a good way) wine list. A very comfortable spot in which to linger over a long lunch.

Very little parking;no valet. Best to use Uber. Funky/cute neighborhood. This restaurant was highly rated, but I am not sure why. Very limited menu. VERY expensive. The gnocchi was 'canned' (if there is such a thing)! And the sauce was not as good as Chef Boyardee. HOWEVER, the risotto/rice balls were the best I've ever had ! And we had... More

My hubby and I are fortunate to frequent this place about 4 - 6 times per month (We live in Decatur just down the street) and are thrilled that it made it to the Atlanta Magazine's list of top restaurants in Atlanta. A much deserved recognition. The staff is friendly, warm and conversational - particularly the bartenders, who are true... More

Fabulous good, perfect service, laid back atmosphere- this place has it all. The server nailed it when we asked for help picking the perfect bottle of wine. Both the duck and pork loin were outstanding as were the oysters and calamari/shrimp appetizers. It's not inexpensive, but it was certainly worth it.

Cakes and Ale was voted one of the best restaurants in Atlanta and had always lived up to this accolade. However, our experience last night was sorely disappointing. Basically, the food, for its quality, is highly overpriced. The portions were shockingly limited in relation to the cost. We ordered "family style" as we have always done. The Greek salad which... Description
A "true foodie find" in Downtown Decatur, chef-owner Billy Allin's American "separates itself" from the usual culinary scene with "fresh", "vivacious" food that "epitomizes the farm-to-table movement", plus "unrivaled" cocktails in a refined, "unassuming" setting.
